Remembering Marie Mitchell Slade As her birthday approaches, we stop to pay tribute to our loving mother, Marie Mitchell Slade, who passed away on January 29, 2012 at 89 years of age. She was born to the late Elmer and Dolores Mitchell on October 24, 1922. She and her two brothers, Peter and Elmer T., were raised in Greenwich and enjoyed many happy occasions with family and friends in the area. She married Edwin W. Slade and they raised a family together in the Greenwich area before relocating to Ft. Lauderdale, Florida, in 1971. Marie was devoted to her husband and following his death in 1980, never remarried. In later years she moved to Fremont, CA to be closer to her son, William, and his family.
Marie was a Licensed Practical Nurse who worked both at Greenwich Hospital and as a private duty nurse, providing compassionate care to many individuals. She was a member of Greenwich Presbyterian Church and a lifetime member and 20 year volunteer at the Fremont Senior Center. Marie enjoyed life at the beach, viewing golf and tennis, and staying involved with her extended family.
She is survived by three children: Edwin Slade, of Doylestown, PA, Peter Slade, of New York City, and William Slade, of Fremont, CA. Also surviving her are four cherished grandchildren and an adorable great-grandchild. They always brought a smile to her face.
Dear mother, you are not forgotten; though on earth you are no more. Still in memory you are with us as you always were before.
