     Richard Schermerhorn Slade was born on December 1, 1917 in New Jersey.2,3 He was the son of Eugene Leland Slade and Mary V. Parcell.2
     Richard married Anna Virginia Moody, daughter of Preston Moody and Marion [?], on September 11, 1938 in Moscow, Latah County, Idaho.4,5 Richard died on January 5, 1977 at age 59 of heart attack while visiting his daughter in Carrollton, Georgia.6,5 He was buried in Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington County, Virginia.3 His obituary read as follows:

      Richard S. Slade, MOSCOW, Idaho — A former longtime Moscow resident, Richard Schermerhorn Slade, 59, was buried Friday in Arlington National Cemetery. Washington, D.C., with full military honors. Mr. Slade. a retired Moscow insurance agent, died last Tuesday of a heart attack while visiting a daughter and son-in-law in Carrollton, Ga. He and his wife left Moscow four years ago to reside in the Washington, D C area. Mr Slade was graduated In 1940 from the University of Idaho, where he was a varsity athlete, and was commissioned a second lieutenant in the U S. Army Reserve. During World War II he served with the 41st (Sunset) Division in the South Pacific and Australia, earning numerous combat area ribbons, the Silver Star for gallantry in action and a Purple Heart.
Survivors include his wife, the former Anna Virginia Moody. at the Fredricksburg, VA home, two daughters, Virginia Ann Heyerdahl, Washington, D C., and Mary Kathleen Bennett, Carrollton; two sons, Roger Slade, Moscow, and Richard S. Slade II, Fullerton, Calif; his father: a brother, H. Eugene Slade. published in Spokane Daily Chronicle - Jan 10, 1977.5

Richard Shermerhorn Slade Jr.1

     Richard Shermerhorn Slade Jr. was born on November 8, 1945 in Moscow, Latah County, Idaho.2 He was the son of Richard Schermerhorn Slade and Anna Virginia Moody.1 Richard Shermerhorn Slade Jr. was living in January, 1977 in Fullerton, Orange County, California.1 Richard died on May 13, 2017 in Carrollton, Carroll County, Georgia, at age 71.2 His obituary read as follows:

      Mr. Richard Schermerhorn Slade II, age 71, of Carrollton Georgia, passed away Saturday, May 13, 2017.

Mr. Slade was born and raised in Moscow, Idaho, on November 8, 1945, the son of the late

Richard S. Slade and Anna Virginia Slade Lagasse.

He graduated both from the University of Idaho with a BS in Psychology in 1973 and later the University of West Georgia with a nursing degree. He was a patriot and proud veteran of the Air Force, serving from 1965-1971.

He was a member of the First Christian Church of Carrollton, and loved his Sunday school class. He was a voracious reader, loved woodworking and building model airplanes. Richard was an accomplished registered nurse and his passion was caring for others. His career included working in ER, surgery and home healthcare. He touched a lot of lives throughout his life with his generosity, compassion, caring soul and his humor.

Survivors include sisters, Virginia Ann Heyerdahl of Fort Worth, Texas, Kathy Bennett of Mesquite, Texas; brother, Roger Preston Slade of Port Townsend, Washington; niece, Ashleigh Robyn McPhail, who was his loving caretaker; four nieces, four nephews, six great-nieces, and one great-nephew.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Richard S. Slade and Anna Virginia Slade Lagasse.

Memorial services will be Thursday, May 25, at 11 a.m. at the First Christian Church with Pastor Randy Barnhart officiating.

In accordance with Mr. Slade's wishes he was cremated.
