     Elliott married first Elinor Everson Stever, daughter of Clifton Baird Stever and Laura Adeline Douglas, in Barnstable County, Massachusetts.4
     Elliott married second Judith Messer in 1983.3 Elliott died on July 19, 2007 in West Dennis, Barnstable County, Massachusetts, at age 79.1 He was buried in Lothrop Hill Cemetery, Barnstable, Barnstable County, Massachusetts.2 His obituary read as follows:

      Elliott K. Slade Jr., 79, of Dennis, died July 19 after a brief illness. He was the husband of the late Judith Messer.

Mr. Slade was born in Boston and graduated from Boston Latin School in 1945. Upon graduation, he served with the 20th Air Force in Guam during World War II. After the war, he received bachelor's and law degrees from Boston University.

In 1955, he moved to Cape Cod where he began his legal career and raised his family. He practices law from his office in West Dennis for more than 50 years. During this time he served as Dennis town counsel, chairman of the Dennis Republican Town Committee, was a member of the Dennis Planning Board and member of the selective service board.

He was a former Cubmaster and Scoutmaster, and was a member of the Cape Cod Rough Riders. In recent years, he volunteered for the Yarmouth-Dennis Red Sox of the Cape Cod Baseball League, and was an active member of the West Dennis Yacht Club.

He leaves two sons, Elliot Slade III of New York City and Aspen, Colo., Clifton Slade of Colorado Springs; two daughters, Kimberley Slade of Halfmoon, N.Y. and Pamela Kelly of Wrentham; a sister, Norma Robbins of Scituate; seven grandchildren; and a niece.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, Oct. 13 at the South Dennis Congregational Church.5
His obituary read as follows:

      DENNIS - Elliott K. Slade Jr., 79, passed away July 19, 2007, after a brief illness.

Mr. Slade was born in Boston on Nov. 7, 1927, the son of Elliott K. Slade Sr. and Margaret (Henry) Slade. He graduated from Boston Latin School in 1945. In recent years, he volunteered for the Yarmouth-Dennis Red Sox of the Cape Cod Baseball League.

Mr. Slade married Judith Messer in 1983. He was predeceased by his beloved wife earlier this year. They enjoyed the ocean, clamming and sailing. Both were active members of the West Dennis Yacht Club. They also enjoyed golf and travel, often finding their way to Zihuatanejo, Mexico.

He leaves behind four children: son, Elliott K. Slade III and his wife Donna, and their daughters, Laura, Shannon and Kimball of New York City and Aspen, Colo; son, Clifton S. Slade, MD and his wife Chong Son and their daughters, Victoria and Alexandra of Colorado Springs; daughter, Kimberley A. Slade of Halfmoon, N.Y; and daughter, Pamela J. Kelly and her husband Brian J. Kelly MD, and their sons, Brian Jr. and Daniel of Wrentham. He also leaves his sister, Norma F. Robbins of Scituate; niece, Marion Reed and her husband Graham, and grandnephew and grandniece, Colin and Carolyn, all of Norwell; and cousin, Margaret McCaffrey of North Cambridge.

A memorial service will be held for family and friends on Saturday, Oct. 13, at 11 a.m., at the South Dennis Congregational Church, with the Rev. Dr. Kathleen S. Henry of the Dennis Union Church officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Cape Cod and Islands Council, Boy Scouts of America, 247 Willow St., Yarmouthport, MA 02675.3

     Caroline Esther Garfield was born on November 24, 1816 in Shrewsbury, Massachusetts.2 She was the daughter of William Garfield and Mary Cary.3
     Caroline married Henry S. Slade, son of Henry Slade and Sally Danforth, on October 2, 1837 in Shrewsbury, Worcester County, Massachusetts.4,5 She signed a will 3 March, 1882, naming her three children, Mary Cardy, Annie M. Oakes and George H. Slade. Her executor was George B. Milton of Weston and witnesses were Daniel Milton, Henry S. [Slade] Milton and Alfred E. Hodge.3 Caroline died in the shipwreck of the City of Columbus off Gay Head, Martha's Vinyard, Massachusetts on January 18, 1844 at age 67.3

     Henry Lewis Slade was born on August 27, 1864 in New York.1,3,4 He was the son of Jarvis Slade and Hannah Thomas Patten.1 Henry was issued a passport for travel to Europe.4 Henry was a salesman for Deering, Miliken & Co.2
     Henry married Olivia Phelps Hoe on September 29, 1891 in St. Mark's Church on Stuyvesant Square, Manhattan, New York County, New York, Olivia and Henry were wed by the Rev. J. B. Rylance the pastor of St. Marks. After they were married her younger sister, Laura Hoe and Mr. Ernest Trow Carter also wanted to be wed.The two young grooms had been together at Princeton College. They were both leaders in their class and regarded as highly promising young men.2,5,6 She was the eldest daughter of Robert and Olivia Hoe of New York City. Robert was a millionaire manufacturer of printing presses.2,5 In 1920, Henry was living alone, 55, divorced, retired. Henry died on July 9, 1924 at age 59.7 He was buried in Woodlawn Cemetery, Bronx, Bronx County, New York.7

After they were married her younger sister, Laura Hoe and Mr. Ernest Trow Carter also wanted to be wed.The two young grooms had been together at Princeton College.
