William Hooker Slade1

     William Hooker Slade was born on February 23, 1823 in Cornwall, Addison County, Vermont.1 He was the son of Norman Bronson Slade and Clarissa Alvord. He removed from Cornwall to Columbus, Ohio in 1848, where he began business in dry goods.1
     William married Marion Elizabeth Bell, daughter of John Bell and Abby Atwood Field, on October 21, 1851 in Columbus, Franklin County, Ohio.1 He was engaged in the dry goods business for ten years and after the Civil War was for six years in the wholesale grocery business and then for thirty-five years in the lumber business in Columbus. William Hooker Slade died on September 14, 1919 at age 96.2 He was buried in Green Lawn Cemetery, Columbus, Franklin County, Ohio.2
