William Slade1

(19 September 1800 - 2 April 1886)
     William Slade was born on September 19, 1800 in Sempronious, Cayuga County, New York.1,2 He was the son of Peleg Slade Jr. and Betsey Bassett.1 He was educated in the district schools and also at a select school in Moravia. He taught school for three terms and, when eighteen years old, came to Kelloggsville, and entered the employment of John Fuller, a merchant, occupying the position of clerk from 1818 to 1825. Upon the death of Mr. Fuller, Mr. Slade boutht the buswiness, which he carried on for fifty years.1
     William married Sallie Kennedy, daughter of Samuel Kennedy and Dorcas Cogswell, on March 1, 1838.1 William died on April 2, 1886 at age 852 and was buried in Kelloggsville Cemetery, Sempronious, Cayuga County, New York.2,3
