     Mary married Edson Slade, son of Charles Henry Slade and Jessie Mable Fiege, on August 28, 1964 in North Adams, Berkshire County, Massachusetts.1,3,2 Mary was widowed when her husband, Edson, died on September 17, 1983 in Stamford, Bennington County, Vermont, at age 70.1 Mary died on January 3, 2004 in North Adams, Massachusetts, at age 662 and was buried in Millard Cemetery, Stamford, Bennington County, Vermont.2

Emily Marie Day

     Emily Marie Day was born on October 22, 1917 in Florence Twp, Pamlico County, North Carolina.1 She was the daughter of Ida Caraway and Mart Day.2
     Emily married Harry Lee Slade, son of Francis DeWitt Slade Sr. and Mollie B. Martin, on July 1, 1933 Bayboro, Pamlico County, North Carolina.1 They never had any children.1 Emily died on March 26, 2009 in Craven County, North Carolina, at age 91.2 Her obituary read as follows:

     

     Emily Day Slade, age 91, of the Florence community, died on March 26, 2009, at Craven Regional Medical Center. Her death was the result of a traffic accident on March 12, 2009, in which she was a victim of a head-on collision.
     She was preceded in death by her husband of more than 50 years, Harry L. Slade, her parents, Mart and Ida Caraway Day, and her sister, Beulah Day Williams.
     She was the oldest living member of Concord Christian Church, where she was an active member who attended services faithfully. She was an avid gardener of both vegetables and flowers. She had already begun her spring vegetable garden this year. She was a generous person who loved to share the products of her gardening. She loved quilting, crocheting, knitting, and sewing. Her hand work graces the homes of many people. She enjoyed her daily "power" walk each morning including the morning of the traffic accident. She was a remarkable, active person for someone her age.
     She is survived by her sister, Mary Day Moore. In addition, she is survived by several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, great-great-nieces, and great-great-nephews, all of whom she adored.
     Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, March 29, at Concord Christian Church with Dr. Robert B. Cayton officiating. Burial will follow at Concord Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at the Concord Christian Church Fellowship Building immediately after the services. Arrangements by Bryant Funeral Home & Cremations, Alliance.2
