John Forsythe Slade

b. June 1825, d. 15 May 1910
     John Forsythe Slade was born in June, 1825 in Georgia His father was born in North Carolina and his mother was born in South Carolina.1 John went to Mississippi as a young man, a printer by trade, he was well educated and published newspapers in different parts of the state prior to the War of Secession. Just before the outbreak of hostilities between North & South, he went West and took an active part as a soldier and newspaper correspondent.2
     John married Terry Melissa Magee circa 1873 in Washington Parish, Louisiana.3,1 She was the daughter of Terry Ginn & Benjamin Magee. The 1900 census indicates they have been married 27 years, which would indicate married in 1873. The children were 7 & 5 years old when they married and John Forsythe adopted them.1,4 After the death of his wife in May, 1901, John made his home with his daughter-in-law, Mrs. J.B. Slade.2 John Forsythe Slade died on May 15, 1910 at age 84 at the home of his daughter-in-law, near Magnolia.2
