Florence Percival Laird1

     Florence Percival Laird was known to family and friends as Percy.2 She was born on November 26, 1914 in Aiken, Aiken County, South Carolina.1 She was the daughter of Robert Marshall Laird and Florence Lillian Crawshay Miller.2
     Florence married Arthur Leland Slade, son of Arthur Lee Slade and Sarah Mae Mitchell, on October 6, 1936.3 Florence died on April 14, 2004 in Augusta, Richmond County, Georgia, at age 89.4 She was buried in St. Thaddeus Episcopal Church, Aiken County, South Carolina.

     Mrs. Florence Percival Laird Slade Parrott, 89, of Evans, Ga., died Wednesday, April 14, 2004, at University Hospital, Augusta, Ga. Funeral services will be held Saturday at 1:30 p.m. at St. Thaddeus Episcopal Church, with the Rev. Jerry Dubose officiating. Interment will follow at the church cemetery.
     Mrs. Parrott earned a B.S. Degree from Converse College, and worked there as an Admissions Recruiter. She was an Episcopalian, and was a member of DAR, Daughters of The King and Jr. Student Club of Aiken.
     Survivors include her son, Arthur Laird Slade, of Moylan, Pa; a stepson, William Gordon Parrott III, of Aiken; four grandchildren, David Marshall Slade, Julian Laird Slade, Mary Laird Whitmire and Thomas Dixon Whitmire V; two stepgrandchildren, Elizabeth Parrott Duffy and William Gordon Parrott IV; three great-grandchildren, Duncan William Eisen-Slade, Malcolm Henry Slade and Laura Meredith Slade; three stepgreat-grandchildren, William Gordon Parrott V, Jimmy Duffy III and Brittany Duffy. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Sarah Florence Slade Whitmire; and her brother, Robert Marion Laird. Memorials may be directed to the St. Thaddeus Episcopal Church Building Fund, 125 Pendleton St., SW, Aiken, SC 29801. The family will receive friends following the service in the Stevenson-McClelland Building. - Shellhouse Funeral Home, Inc., 924 Hayne Ave., Aiken.2

     Mary married Samuel Mitchell Slade, son of Arthur Lee Slade and Sarah Mae Mitchell, on September 6, 1952.4 Mary died on October 15, 2014.2 She was buried in Sunset Memorial Gardens, Edgefield County, South Carolina.5 Her obituary read as follows:

      Mary Alleen Slade EDGEFIELD - Mrs. Mary Alleen McKie Slade, of Edgefield, wife of the late Sam Slade, died Wednesday October 15, 2014, in Edgefield County Hospital. Graveside Service will be held Saturday, October 18, 2014, at 11 a.m. in Sunset Gardens Memorial Park in Edgefield, S.C. Mrs. Slade was born in Edgefield, S.C., and was a homemaker. She was a parishioner at Episcopal Church of the Ridge. Survivors include two sons, Sam Mitchell Slade, Jr., Arthur (Penney) Slade; one daughter, Jean Slade (Chris) Covar; one brother, Robert H. McKie, Jr; one sister, Mildred Morgan; six grandchildren, Elliott Slade, Mary Elaine Slade, Bailey Peeler, Sarah Peeler, Ben (Miriam) Covar and Jason Covar.       Mrs. Bernice Mitchell Slade, 91, of 520 Columbia Road, died Friday, Nov. 13, 1998, at University Hospital. The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Edgefield United Methodist Church with the Rev. Barry Brown officiating. Burial will be in Eastview Cemetery. Mrs. Slade, a native of Edgefield County, had retired as a teacher and was a homemaker. She was a graduate of Winthrop College and a member of Edgefield United Methodist Church.
     Survivors include one stepson, Sam Slade, Edgefield; one stepdaughter, Mary Frances Slade, Edgefield; one brother, Capers Mitchell, Johnston; one sister, Mary Mitchell, Johnston; and four grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Pallbearers will be Mitch Slade, Tumpy Rauton, Bill Jackson, Arthur Slade, Tommy Rauton and John Jackson. Memorials may be made to Edgefield United Methodist Church Organ Fund, P.O.
