Lancelot Edward Hamilton Slade1,2

     His obituary read as follows:

      Lancelot E. Slade, long time resident of Douglas county, passed away from a heart attack on Tuesday morning, July 13, 1943, at his home on 414 North Hawthorne, Alexandria. Mr. Slade, son of the late Rev. James and Emily Slade, was born at Little Lever, near Manchester, England, May 11, 1873 and was at the time of his death 70 years, 2 months and 2 days. He was married to Huldah Taylor at Owatonna March 3, 1896. He is survived by his wife and five children: Carey at home, Constance (Mrs. Edward Dinda) of Alexandria, Emily (Mrs. Edward Wald) of Clarion, Iowa, Mary (Mrs. Guy Anderson) of Greenacres, Washington; Frances (Mrs. Alfred Zwieg) of Garfield. Margaret (Mrs. Fred Adolf) preceded him in death two years ago. Seven grandchildren, one brother, Frank Slade of St. Paul, and three sisters, Margaret, Constance and Dora Slade of Cheltenham, England are also left to mourn his loss.
Mr. Slade received his schooling in England and when 21 he immigrated to America and came to Minnesota and settled in Rice county, where he bought land and farmed. On March 3, 1905 he came to Douglas county and bought land in Alexandria township. He farmed at various places near Alexandria until he moved to Alexandria, last March. He had been in failing health for the last two years. He was a kind and loving husband and father and will be greatly missed by all.
Services were conducted from the Anderson Funeral Home Saturday afternoon, July 17, A. A. Secord officiating. Burial was made in Kinkead cemetery. Honorary pallbearers were Thomas Syvrud, Alex Johnson, John O'Brien, Hjalmer Peterson, Carl Soderholm and William Sexton. Active pallbearers were John Zilker, Reinhold Roth, Victor Steinhorst, Axel Nelson, Morris Hoar, and Fritz Hienke.

     Lancelot married Huldah Mae Taylor on March 3, 1897 in Owatonna, Steele County, Minnesota.4,2 Lancelot Edward Hamilton Slade registered for WWI draft on September 12, 1918 at Alexandria, Douglas County, Minnesota.5 Lancelot died on July 12, 1943 at age 706 and was buried in Kinkead Cemetery, Alexandria, Douglas County, Minnesota.6

James Slade B.A. and Emily Mary Weekes, on March 3, 1897 in Owatonna, Steele County, Minnesota.2,1 Huldah was widowed when her husband, Lancelot, died on July 12, 1943 at age 70.3 Huldah died on September 18, 1960 at age 924 and was buried in Kinkead Cemetery, Alexandria, Douglas County, Minnesota.4
