After his term he moved to Colorado and engaged in the oil business. He returned to Oklahoma in 1915 and was head of Cosden Oil Company's land division until his death.2

His brothers, James and Richard were also part of the crew.6 William was a mate aboard the Hawk as it made 10 voyages from Appledore to Wales and back. His Royal Naval Volunteer's certificate no. 79570. His brother Richard was also a mate on these journeys.7 William Kingdon Slade (Slader) served in Served in the Royal Naval Reserve Service from 1897-1898. Service number 1665-C in 1897.3 He was a mariner.2 Campaign Medals Awarded to WWI Merchant Seamen.8 William died on December 2, 1942 in Halden St., Appledore, Devon, England, at age 77.9 His estate was probated on February 17, 1943; Probate - Llandudno, 17 Feb 1943 to Rosina Annie Slade, widow, and William James Slade master mariner. £6164 2s.5d.9
