      Joseph Oscar Slade, Jr., 92, of Hawkinsville, GA died Monday, April 26, 2010, in Pinewood Manor Nursing Home in Hawkinsville. Graveside funeral services will be held at 11A.M., Tuesday, April 27, 2010 in Pulaski-Bleckley Memorial Gardens with Dr. Don McClung officiating. Visitation will be immediately following the service at the cemetery. Mr. Slade was a native of Pulaski County, GA and a member of the First Baptist Church of Hawkinsville, GA. He was self-employed owner of the City Package Store and Slade Bonded Warehouse. Joe was a veteran of WWII having served in the Pacific Theater and a member of the 207th Military Police for five years. Mr. Slade was married to his wife, Olene, for sixty-two years. He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph O. and Elizabeth Holt Slade and daughter, Diane Slade Foley of Dunwoody, GA. Survivors include his wife, Olene Y. Slade of Hawkinsville, GA; daughter, Debbie Slade of Marietta, GA; granddaughter, Farrah Foley of Canton, GA; grandson, Christopher Foley also of Canton, GA; sister, Edith Slade Nelson of Hawkinsville, GA; brother, Lonnie E.      Lonnie Ezekiel Slade was born on July 19, 1924 in Pulaski County, Georgia.2,3 He was the son of Joseph Oscar Slade and Elizabeth Holt.2
     Lonnie married Ora Lee Cheek, daughter of Robert Spears Cheek and Clifford Sammie Bohannon, on March 3, 1957.4 Lonnie died on March 31, 2014 at age 89.1 He was buried in Mount Pleasant Cemetery, Pulaski County, Georgia.1 His obituary read as follows:

Hawkinsville, GA- Lonnie E. Slade, 89, of Hawkinsville, Ga. died Monday, March 31, 2014 in Taylor Regional Hospital in Hawkinsville, Ga. Graveside services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, April 5, 2014 in the Mt. Pleasant Cemetery with Rev. Blake Westbrook officiating.
Mr. Slade was a native of Pulaski County, Ga. a member of the Baptist faith and attended Blue Springs Baptist Church. He was a former partner of the Dixie Bonded Warehouse & Grain Co. and on the Board of Directors for Middle Georgia EMC for 30 years. He was a former member of the Hawkinsville Lion's Club. Lonnie was instrumental in the founding of Baker Academy and also served on the Board of Directors. He was preceded in death by his parents, J. O. and Elizabeth Holt Slade and his wife, Ora Lee Cheek Slade.
Survivors include his sons, Joe (Tammy) Slade of Macon, Ga., Lon (Rebecca) Slade of Marietta, Ga; daughters, Melinda Slade (Bobby) Tharpe of Kennesaw, Ga., Beth Slade (Lenny) Griffin of Hawkinsville, Ga; sister, Edith Nelson of Hawkinsville, Ga; 8 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild.
Pallbearers will be John Brady, Slade Bloodworth, Phillip Martin, Carlton Bray, Alfred Carr, Rence Cheek and Rob Ryan.
Visitation will be Friday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. at Clark Funeral Home.1
