WHITE HALL, MD C. Eldon Slade, 91, died Friday, February 4, 2011, at Barbara J. Egan Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Shrewsbury. He was the husband of the late Mary Ellen (Curry) Slade. There will be a viewing from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday at J.J. Hartenstein Mortuary, Inc., 24 N. Second St., New Freedom. The service will begin at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the mortuary with Pastor Bruce C. Frame officiating. B o r n July 10, 1919, in W h i t e Hall, Md., Eldon was the son of the late J a m e s Elmer and Nellie Ray (Almony) Slade. He was a member of West Liberty United Methodist Church. Eldon served in the U.S. Army during WWII with the 612th Coast Artillery Battery in the Pacific Theatre for three and a half years. From 1945-1961 he was owner and operator of the former Slade Store at West Liberty, in White Hall. He then moved to Graystone Road and became a farmer for over 10 years and later retired. Surviving are a sister, Evelyn McCullough; sister-inlaw, Jane Leffel and her husband, Jim; many nieces and nephews; and many greatnieces and nephews. he was predeceased by a brother, J. Carroll Slade; and two sisters, Miriam S. Snyder and Ella R. Mullis.

      On January 17, 2006, J. CARROLL SLADE, of White Hall, MD. Devoted husband of the late Helen M. (nee Fishel) Slade, beloved father of Lynn C. Slade and Byron F. Slade, dear brother of Eldon Slade, Evelyn Mc Cullough and Ella Mullis. Also survived by grandchildren, Matthew, Lyndon and Kristin Slade, Dena Borchardt and Kelly and Matthew Anthony, and great-grandchildren, Madeline and Rebecca Borchardt, Zane Slade and Allison Murray. Funeral services will be held on Friday, January 20, at 12 noon from Vernon United Methodist Church, Vernon Road, White Hall, MD. Burial is in the church cemetery. Friends may call at the J.J. Hartenstein Mortuary, Inc., 24 Second Street, New Freedom, PA on Thursday, January 19 from 4-7 PM and on Friday January 20, from 11 AM to 12 noon at Vernon United Methodist Church.
