     Elizabeth married George William Slade, son of Arthur Clarence Slade and Susanne D. Hooper, on January 7, 1935 in Nashua, New Hampshire.4,5,1 Elizabeth died on June 21, 2003 in Baltimore County, Maryland.3 Her obituary read as follows:

      Elizabeth M. Slade, a retired department store fashion show organizer, died Saturday of congestive heart failure at Charlestown Retirement Community. The former Dickeyville resident was 90.

Born Elizabeth Banks Middleton in New York City and raised in Wakefield, Mass., she attended the old Prince School of Design, a division of Simmons College in Boston.

Mrs. Slade was a fashion model and later became a publicity director at Fisher Junior College in Boston. She moved to Baltimore in 1954, when she joined the Hutzler's department store. She was fashion show supervisor for the chain and retired about 35 years ago.

A Kernan Hospital volunteer, she belonged to the Dickeyville Garden Club and won awards for her flower arrangements. She also was a treasure sale volunteer at the retirement community, where she moved in 1991.

She was member of Dickeyville Memorial Presbyterian Church, where services were held yesterday.

Her husband of 60 years, George W. Slade, died in 1992.

Survivors include a son, George W. Slade II of Westminster; a daughter, Joan S. Minor of Courtland, Va; eight grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.3

Dana Slade1

     Dana Slade was born on March 21, 1826 in Alstead, Cheshire County, New Hampshire.1,2,3 He was the son of Samuel Slade Jr. and Eunice Angier.3
     Dana married first Harriet Brown in Walpole, New Hampshire, and she died in March, 1856. There were no children from this marriage.4 Dana joined the "Ophir Mining and Trading Company of Boston," a joint stock company, "organized, March 9, 1849, for purposes of Mining and Trading in California." The venture was successful and he returned to Alstead with a handsome sum of money from his share of profits. In 1851, Dana went to Detroit, Michigan, and went into business with his brother, Ira, under the name of Slade Brothers, and remained there until 1856, when he removed to Keokuk, Iowa, and bought a hotel which he kept until 1860. About 1865, he removed to Chicago, joined the Board of Trade, where he finished his career.5,6
     Dana married Sarah Geer, daughter of Noah Phelps Geer and Sally Buckman, on September 3, 1857 in Charlestown, New Hampshire, Apparently, Sarah died shortly after their marriage.4,7
     Dana married third Elizabeth Geer, daughter of Noah Phelps Geer and Sally Buckman, on January 3, 1860 in Charlestown, New Hampshire.4 Dana Slade was registered for the Civil War circa 1864 in Westminster, Vermont.8

John Lathrop Slade Jr.

(28 January 1920 - 18 February 2011)
     John Lathrop Slade Jr. was born on January 28, 1920 in DuPage County, Illinois.1 He was the son of John Lathrop Slade and Helen Elizabeth Watts. John was born in Hinsdale Illinois and attended Hinsdale High School. He graduated from the University of Chicago in 1940 and was a member of Delta Kappa Epsilon Fraternity. Shortly after graduation John enlisted in the US Navy and was accepted into the Officer Candidate program at Northwestern University. He was commissioned an Ensign in the US Navy in March 1941.2

     John married Jacqueline R. Morrison in April, 1943.2 During World War II John served sea duty in both the North Atlantic (1941-1943) and in the South Pacific (1943-1945). In late 1944 he assumed command of the Destroyer Escort USS Raby (DE-698) until war’s end. After the war John returned to civilian life as a member of the US Naval Reserve until he was called back to active duty during the Korean Conflict. At that time he became Executive Officer of the Destroyer USS Perry (DD-844). After the Perry, John had two tours of shore duty before assuming command of the Destroyer USS Gainard (DD-706) in 1957. During John’s US Navy career, he served six tours of duty aboard US Navy ships as well as duty stations in four U.S. States, Washington D.C. and two foreign countries. John retired from the US Navy in 1967 and moved his family to Coronado.
