     Mattie Lee Martin was born on March 17, 1898 in Mississippi.¹
     Mattie married Berrie Ezekiel Slade, son of Robert Newton Slade and Annie Mae Taylor, on December 20, 1921 in Meridian, Lauderdale County, Mississippi.¹ Mattie died on May 15, 1965 at age 67.² She was buried in Cerro Gordo Cemetery, Piatt County, Illinois.²

     Berrie Ezekiel Slade Jr. was born on July 11, 1929 in Fayette County, West Virginia.¹ He was the son of Berrie Ezekiel Slade and Mattie Lee Martin.¹
     Berrie married Bertie Elsie Adkins on September 13, 1948 in Illinois.¹ Berrie died on January 26, 1995 in Illinois at age 65.² He was buried in Cerro Gordo Cemetery, Piatt County, Illinois.²

     James Robert Slade was born on October 12, 1922 in York, Sumpter County, Alabama.² He was the son of Berrie Ezekiel Slade and Mattie Lee Martin.¹
     James married Dorcas Lee Manley on March 17, 1947 in Rossville, Walker County, Georgia.¹ Dorcas was the daughter of Mattie Mae and Leonard Manley.³ James died on February 10, 1984 at age 61² and was buried in Cerro Gordo Cemetery, Piatt County, Illinois.²

     Leo Brunker was born on October 20, 1919 in Harrison County, Kentucky.¹
     Leo married Mary Lois Slade, daughter of Rupert Harold Slade and Jessie Katherine Moreland, in Kentucky.¹

     Dorothy Dean Florence was born on July 24, 1927 in Harrison County, Kentucky.² She was the daughter of Ezra Wells Florence and Mary Elizabeth Geoghegan.¹
     Dorothy married Harold Coleman Slade, son of Rupert Harold Slade and Jessie Katherine Moreland, on December 18, 1952 in Kentucky.³ Dorothy died on March 26, 2016 at age 88¹ and was buried in Battle Grove Cemetery, Cynthiana, Harrison County, Kentucky.¹ Her obituary read as follows:

      Dorothy Dean Florence Slade, 88, Cynthiana, passed away Saturday, March 26, 2016 at the University of Kentucky Hospital, after a brief illness.?She was born July 24, 1927 in Harrison County, Ky., a daughter of the late Ezra Wells and Mary Elizabeth Geoghegan Florence, and was preceded in death March 25, 2013 by her husband of 60 years, Harold Coleman Slade, and by a brother Harold Rees Florence.Dorothy was a graduate of the Buena Vista High School, class of 1946, was a member of the First United Methodist Church, a member of the Harrison County Historical Society, and in 2014 Rep. Tom McKee presented a citation of appreciation to her, for the many years of service, as treasurer of the Harrison County Historical Society, she was appointed a Kentucky Colonel by Gov. Steve Beshear.Dorothy was a founding member of the Cynthiana-Harrison County Museum and restored and cared for Abdell Cemetery for many years.Survivors include: three daughters, Kay (Robbie) Cox, Cynthiana, Betty (Ed) Pariso, North Richland Hills, Texas, Ann (Phyllis) Slade, Cynthiana; one son, Terry (Dee Ann) Slade, Frankfort; three grandchildren, Lacye Carmichael, Texas, Justin (Mallory) Carmichael, Texas, and Taylor Slade, Frankfort; two great-grandchildren, James and Logan Carmichael, Texas; sister-in-law, Mary Lois Brunker, Cynthiana; one nephew, Jerry (Ann) Brunker, Morehead; one niece, Diane (Jim) Wilson, Cynthiana; and several cousins.
Funeral services will be Wednesday, March 30 at 11 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church, officiated by the Rev. Mike Coppersmith and Dr. Timothy Teater. Burial will follow the service in Battle Grove Cemetery. Friends may call from 5-8 p.m. Tuesday and after 10 a.m. Wednesday at the church.Memorial contributions may be made to the Abdell Cemetery Fund, 1205 Ky. Hwy. 32 W. Cynthiana, KY 41031, or First United Methodist Church, 302 E. Pike St., Cynthiana, KY 41031.Drake-Whaley-McCarty Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.¹

     Avalon Earle Daniel was born on July 21, 1921 in Catherine, Wilcox County, Alabama.²
     Avalon married Ralph Slade, son of Jewell Bland Slade and Lou Ethel Wilson, on January 4, 1944 in Dallas County, Alabama.¹ Avalon died on February 25, 2007 at age 85.² She was buried in Jefferson Memorial Gardens East, Trussville, Jefferson County, Alabama.²

     Martha McCauley Reynolds was born on August 27, 1918 in Nashville, Tennessee.¹ Martha died in 1944 in Harrison County, Kentucky.¹
     Martha married George Duncan Slade, son of Jewell Bland Slade and Lou Ethel Wilson, on August 17, 1944 in Fayette County, Kentucky.¹

     Bertie Elsie Adkins was born on February 25, 1932.¹
     Bertie married Berrie Ezekiel Slade Jr., son of Berrie Ezekiel Slade and Mattie Lee Martin, on September 13, 1948 in Illinois.¹ Bertie Elsie Adkins was buried in Cerro Gordo Cemetery, Piatt County, Illinois.²

HAMMOND — Dorcas Lee Slade was granted her angel wings on September 15, 2011. Her final days were spent surrounded by family, even though she was so frail in the end, she gave us all such courage and hope and reminded us of the preciousness of life. Dorcas was born on March 8, 1927 in Deep Water, WV the first child of Mattie Mae and Leonard Manley. She was the wife of the late James R. Slade with whom she had three children, the late Mattie Mae (Susie) Slade Cripe, James Slade and Donald Slade.

Dorcas devoted much of her time and energy as a caregiver to family members, she was an active member of the Hammond Missionary Baptist Church and volunteered her time as a member of the library board as well as coordinating the Hammond Community Building, Senior Citizen transportation and various town functions.

Dorcas is survived by: Son, James L. Slade (wife) Sharon; Son, Donald Slade (wife) Kim; Brother, Chuck (wife) Mary Jane of Charleston, WV: Sister in law, Bertie Slade of LaPlace. Dorcas's grandchildren include Amanda Day (husband) Paul and their children, Tyler and Molly; Jennifer Feagin and her children, Jordan, Kyle & Kaden; Vernita Spry and her children Kaci and Stephanie; Katy Hart (husband) DJ and their children Jacob & Lillian; Sarah Foster and her children Caleb, Elizabeth & Alivia and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, James R. Slade (husband), Susie Slade Cripe (daughter), Shellie Cripe (granddaughter), June Patterson (sister), Berrie (JR) Slade (brother in law).

Dorcas's countless friends are invited to the visitation at Hilligoss Shrader Funeral Home, 66 East US Highway 36, Atwood, IL on Sunday, September 18th from 4:00 — 6:00 PM and funeral, Monday, September 19th at 11:00AM at the Hammond Missionary Baptist Church. Burial will be in the Cerro Gordo Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, those wishing to honor Dorcas are encouraged to make a donation to the Hammond Missionary Baptist Church.
