     Arthur Shenstone Slade was known as Shen. He was born in February, 1899 in Victoria, Newfoundland.1 He was the son of John Martin Slade and Susanna Somers. Shen went to Nova Scotia in 1916 where he found work as a miner.
     Arthur married first Annie Enion on January 3, 1917 in Cape Breton County, Nova Scotia, Canada.2 Arthur was a Methodist.3 Listed on a ships manifest sailing from Halifax, Nova Scotia to Chelsey, Mass., USA. The manifest indicates he was seeking work. He was 5'6", with a medium complexion, brown hair and brown eyes.4 Annie Enion died on March 25, 1943 in Roddickton, Newfoundland, at age 44; when giving birth on way home from Labrador.5
     Arthur married second Gertrude F. "Gertie" [?].6 Arthur died in 19766 and was buried in Victoria United Church Cemetery, Victoria, Conception Bay, Newfoundland.6

     Elijah married Hazel [?] in 1938.3 Elijah died on October 16, 2011 in Oshawa, Ontario, Canada, at age 94.4 His obituary read as follows:

      SLADE, Elijah (Jack) - Peacefully at Lakeridge Health Oshawa on Sunday, October 16, 2011 in his 95th year. Jack, beloved husband of the Iate HazeI Slade. Loving father of Melba (Larry), Ray (Vicky), Gloria (Gary), Shirley, Evyone (Noel), Tony (Barb), Loretta (Paul), Dorothy and the late Duane and Annie. Father-in-law of Linda. Cherished grandpa of Todd, Sunday, Tracy, Kelly, Brandi, Colin, Reisa, Duane, Sarah, Rhonda, Ashleigh, Ryan, Sheighlyn and great-grandpa of Kyle, Caitlyn, Erin, Mathew, Nikki, Daniel, Samuel, Hanna, Lauren, Keeton and Julian. Dear brother of Sidney (AIma), Sy, Clifford (Mary) and Mazie. Friends and family will be received at MOUNT LAWN RECEPTION CENTRE, 21 Garrard Road, Whitby (north of Hwy. 2), 905-443-3376, on Thursday, October 20, 2011 from 2 p.m. until the time of the Memorial Service in the chapeI at 3 p.m. Interment Mount Lawn Memorial Gardens.      Ernest Slade was born on February 28, 1889 in Victoria Village, Conception Bay, Newfoundland.2,1 He was the son of John Martin Slade and Susanna Somers.2 Ernest Slade was baptized on April 7, 1889; Church of England.2
     Ernest married Margaret Clarke on March 28, 1908 in Victoria, Newfoundland.1,3 Ernest immigrated from Victoria to North Sydney, Cape Breton County, Nova Scotia, Canada, in May, 1911 aboard the Invermore. Earnest went to Nova Scotia to work in the mine. He took his family with him. Earnest, Margaret, Robert, Donald, & Alan could read and write English.4 He was Pentacostal.5 He died in 1968 in Sydney Mines, Nova Scotia and was buried.6 He was buried in Brookside Cemetery, Sydney Mines, Cape Breton County, Nova Scotia, Canada.6

His wife's obituary lists additional children: a son Jack, living in North Sydney and another son, Major, living in Sydney Mines. A daughter, Florence, (Mrs. Mark Cole ) living in Victoria, Effie (Mrs. Melvin Laffin ) living in Bras d'Or, Unetha (Mrs. Neil Dunn ) living in Bras d'Or.7

      MRS. ERNEST SLADE, the former Margaret Clarke, 77, of Tobin Road, Sydney Mines, died Friday. Born in Victoria, Newfoundland, she moved to Sydney Mines 23 years ago. Surviving besides her husband, are five sons, Robert and Donald, Ontario; Angus, Glace Bay; Jack, North Sydney; Major, Sydney Mines; four daughters, Annie (Mrs. Willington Taylor) New Waterford; Florence (Mrs. Mark Cole) Victoria, Nfld; Effie (Mrs. Melvin Laffin) Bras d'Or; Unetha (Mrs. Neil Dunn) Bras d'Or; one sister, Mrs. Elizabeth Clarke, Victoria, Nfld. The body is at the Fillmore and Whitman Funeral Home, Sydney Mines, where a funeral service will be held Monday at 3:30 p.m. Interment will be in Brookside Cemetery.
