Interment will be at the Salvation Army Cemetery. Pallbearers are Robert Slade, Fred Rideout, Kevin Barrett, Justin Barrett, Shawn Hurley and Ross Burton. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Ken Goodyear and Marilyn Stuckless of Central Funeral Homes. Survived by his loving wife of 49 years Mary (Kennedy) Slade; two sons, Winston Jr., Andrew (Danelle), both of Toronto; three grandchildren which he adored, Madalynn, Emily and Victoria; brother Herman Slade, Sydney; sister Fay Brake, Newfoundland; and brother-in-law Michael (Sharon) Kennedy, Westmount.
He was predeceased by parents, Edgar and Ada Slade, also sister Joan Wheeler.
Visitation will take place on Thursday, Jan. 30, 2014, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in the S.W. Chant & Son Funeral Home, 564 Alexandra St., Sydney. At the families request there will be no funeral service, a private family burial will take place at a later date in Forest Haven Memorial Gardens.

Mary is survived by her two sons, Winston and Andrew (Danielle), three granddaughters, Madalyn, Emily and Victoria, her six brothers, Michael (Sharon), Martin (Elsie), Brian (Susan), Kevin, John (Diane), Kenneth (Vernie), one sister, Ann (Jack), sister-in-law, Fay Brake, as well as many nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband of 49 years, Winston, sister Regina Lahey and brother-in-law Herman Slade.
Visitation will be held Sunday, June 8, 2014, at the S.W. Chant & Son Funeral Home, 564 Alexandra St., from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. with Rev. Sheldon Chant to have prayers at 8:45 p.m. Burial to take place 11 a.m. Monday, June 9, 2014, in Forest Haven Memorial Gardens.

It is with a broken heart that I announce the peaceful passing of my father, Herman Edgar Slade at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, with his family by his side.
Born in Corner Brook, Newfoundland, Dec. 5, 1938, he was the son of the late Edgar and Ada (Manuel)Slade, Newfoundland.
He resided in Sydney most of his life. He was a pipefitter by trade and was a member of Local 682.
Herman loved his motorcycle and enjoyed taking trips to Newfoundland. He also enjoyed his morning coffees with the boys and flea markets on Sunday.
Herman is survived by his daughter, Ada Ann (Will) Stockley, granddaughter, Glenda (Rickie) Brockett, three great-grandchildren, Brittany, Madison and Dallas, one great-great-grandson, Emerson, one sister, Fay Brake, Gander, N.L., sister-in-law, Mary Slade, brother-in-law, Harold Wheeler. He will be missed by his niece, Kellie (Jeremy) and their children, Molly and Henry, Fort McMurray. He is also survived by his longtime companion, Charlotte 'Lottie' MacLellan, and her children, Donald (Angela), Kenny (Amy), Mike (Lynn), Patty (Inez), Cathy (Evan), Roy (Theresa).
Herman was predeceased by his brother, Winston, sister, Joan Wheeler, brother-in-law, Bob Brake.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, May 7, 2014, at the S.W. Chant & Son Funeral Home, 564 Alexandra St., Sydney from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Interment to take place Thursday, May 15, 2014, at 11 a.m. at Forest Haven Memorial Gardens.
