Frederick Jarvis Slade1,2

     Frederick Jarvis Slade was born on March 4, 1848 in Massachusetts [1850 census indicates b 1841].3 He was the son of John Slade and Lucy Lord.1 He graduated from the College of the City of New York as a mechanical engineer and began a business career as a machinist with Morgan Iron Works.4
     Frederick married Amy Lane.5 In 1870, he was appointed Treasurer of the New Jersey Steel and Iron Company and held that position until his death. He was a member of the American Society of Mining Engineers and his accurate knowledge of natural philosophy and mechanical engineering made him a most successful investigator of scientific problems.4 Frederick died on October 11, 1891 in Trenton, Mercer County, New Jersey, at age 43.4 He was buried in Green-Wood Cemetery, Brooklyn, Kings County, New York.3
