     John Smith Slade M. D. was born on January 24, 1824 in Bedford County, Tennessee.1,2 He was the son of John S. Slade and Elizabeth Wallace Cartmill.1
     John married Nancy Ellen Ferrell on June 21, 1845 in Lafayette County, Missouri.1 Also in this household was Sophia Ferrell, 36, b VA, sister of Nancy, and Marion Horn, m, 24, b KY.3 Sophia Ferrill, 56, sister-in-law is living with family. John died on June 17, 1881 in Missouri at age 57.1
