     James married Samantha Ford, daughter of Sylvester Ford and Lydia Olmstead Reed.1 James Slade and his wife, Samantha, came from Westerlo, Albany County and settled on a farm of 114+ acres, located in Meredith, Delaware County. In 1830, he sold this farm and purchased another property since known as "Deacon Slade Farm."2 The First Baptist society of Oneonta, NY was organized April 6, 1833. At a meeting called for that purpose, David Yager was chosen moderator and James Slade clerk.3 William George, 23, b NY, farmhand, living with Slade family.1 James died on June 13, 18834 and was buried in Riverside Cemetery, Oneonta, Otsego County, New York.5

All other property to be divided equally between his two children aforementioned. He apponts his son-in-law Grenville A Rathun of Oneonta to be Executer of his will. Witness was brother Hamilton F Slade. His will was probated Dec 20, 1900.5 Sherrill died in December, 1900 at age 72.1,5
