     Marjorie Bertha Cummings was born on February 11, 1915 in Pokegama Twp., Pine County, Minnesota.1 Marjorie was the daughter of Charles and Edith (Dowland) Cummings. She was born at home on Feb. 11, 1915 in Pokegama Township, Pine County. She grew up on the family farm, attended the nearby rural Jarvis Bay School and graduated from Pine City High School. As a young woman, Marjorie helped with the work on farm, as well as cooking and cleaning for her parents and other residents of the Pokegama Lake community.1
     Marjorie married Christopher John Slade Jr., son of Christopher Slade Jr. and Mabel Blake, on March 8, 1945 in Pine County, Minnesota.1 Marjorie died on May 18, 2008 in Mora, Kanabec County, Minnesota, at age 93.1 She was buried in Brook Park Cemetery, Pine County, Minnesota.2 She was New Tag Marjorie Bertha Slade, 93, died May 18, 2008 at the Villa Health Care Center. Marjorie was the daughter of Charles and Edith (Dowland) Cummings. She was born at home on Feb. 11, 1915 in Pokegama Township, Pine County. She grew up on the family farm, attended the nearby rural Jarvis Bay School and graduated from Pine City High School.
As a young woman, Marjorie helped with the work on farm, as well as cooking and cleaning for her parents and other residents of the Pokegama Lake community.
On March 8, 1945, Marjorie wed Christopher John Slade, known to his family and friends as Jack. They made their home just across the road from his parents and in 1949 their son, Jim, was born. They eventually moved across the road to the farm where Jack’s parents lived, and they lived and farmed there until 1976. Jim then purchased the family farm from them. Margie and Jack then moved back into the house across the road where they lived when they first started their married life.
Marjorie always took an active part in their farming operation, helping Jack with chores and raising large flocks of geese and chickens. Jack died in 1982, and Marjorie continued to live by herself until 2005 when she fell, and it was necessary for her to become a resident of the Villa Health Care Center at Mora.
She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law: Jim and Jean Slade of Brook Park; grandchildren: Chris and Amy Slade, Lisa and Bruce Westerman, and Dan and Sarah Slade, all of Brook Park; great-grandchildren: Jordan, Leah, Kadi, Cody and Payton; sisters-in-law: Elsie Cummings and Margie Cummings, both of Pine City; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Jack, her sisters Effie, Lizzie and Jesse, and her brothers Cyril, Lester, Raymond, Walter, Harvey, John, Elmer and Vern.
A memorial service was held on May 21 at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Pine City with the Reverend Vicki VanderVegt officiating. Music was provided by organist Glenna Reierson and soloist Don Ripperton. Urn bearer was Scott Cummings. published in the Pine City Pioneer may 20, 2008.1

     Sardis W. Slade was born circa 1801 in Massachusetts.2
     Sardis married Maria [?].2 Cloth Dressing
The subscriber, encouraged by the generous patronage he has received, would inform his employers and the public, that he shall continue the Cloth Dressing Business at the old stand, half a mile west of the South Village in Adams. Sardis W. Slade, Adams, Sept. 8, 1828. On December 18, 1828 Sardis W. Slade resided in Adams, Berkshire County, Massachusetts.3 In 1843, Sardis and Maria relocated their family from Berkshire County, Massachusetts to Cook County, Illinois and located on a farm in Barrington Township.4 Sardis died circa 1887 in Cook County, Illinois.5
