He worked as a highway surveyor for the commonwealth of Massachusetts for several years. He was a registered land surveyor and founded the firm Slade Associates, Inc in Wellfleet. He retired in 1977 and moved to Florida.4 Wilfred died on March 3, 1999 in Lecanto, Citrus County, Florida, at age 90.3,4 He was buried in Old North Cemetery, Truro, Barnstable County, Massachusetts.4 His obituary read as follows:

He was the husband of Ruth (Smith) Slade, who died in 1980.
Mr. Slade was born in West Hanover, Mass. He lived in Provincetown until the late 1940s, and then in Truro until his retirement in 1977. He was a 1928 graduate of Provincetown High School.
Mr. Slade served in the Maritime Service, Coast Guard and the Navy, serving in World War II from 1942 to 1945. He worked as a highway surveyor for the commonwealth of Massachusetts for several years.
A registered land surveyor, he retired from his business, the Slade Agency, in Wellfleet in 1977 and moved to Florida.
From 1960 to 1978, he served on the board of Corporators' Seamens' Savings Bank, Provincetown. He was a member of the American Legion Post No. 287, Wellfleet and the Massachusetts Retirees Association.
He was also a member of the Masons for 65 years, joined King Hiram's Lodge A.F. & A.M., Provincetown and later joined Pinellas Daylight Lodge A.M. No. 385 in St. Petersburg.
Surviving are a son, Frederick A. Slade; a daughter, Cynthia Slade Hurd; a brother, Richard H. Slade of West Yarmouth; and several nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. April 9 in North Truro Cemetery, Truro.
Memorial donations may be made to the Truro Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 2013, Truro, MA 02666.4

He was also a member of the Masons for 65 years, joined King Hiram's Lodge A.F. & A.M., Provincetown and later joined Pinellas Daylight Lodge A.M. No. 385 in St. Petersburg.
Surviving are a son, Frederick A. Slade; a daughter, Cynthia Slade Hurd; a brother, Richard H. Slade of West Yarmouth; and several nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. April 9 in North Truro Cemetery, Truro.
