She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul M. Slade and by her brother, Walter C. Schmidt, Jr. Surviving are her two daughters, Jeanne Bruce (James) of Camp Hill and Carole Matter of Dunwoody, GA. She was a loving grandmother to Susan Bruce (Neal Fitch), Timothy Bruce (Meghan Voorhees), Christopher Bruce (Diane), Mark Tomich (Shelley), and Keith Tomich; and great-grandmother to Lucy, Evie, and Julie Tomich, Jude Bruce, and Foster Fitch. Also surviving is her sister, Dolores Witherow of St. Clairsville, OH.

Bernard married Margot Friedlein, daughter of Adolf Friedlein.3 Bernard died on July 6, 2013 in Dutchess County, New York, at age 89.1 His obituary read as follows:
Bernard N. Slade, 89, a resident of the Town of La Grange, died on July 6, 2013 after battling a short term illness. He is the son of the late William and Katherine Slotsky and was born in Sioux City, Iowa on December 21, 1923.After graduating from Central High School in Sioux City in 1941, he attended the University of Minnesota until 1943 when he joined the United States Army during World War II. He became a Second Lieutenant in the Field Artillery. After his discharge from the Army in 1946, he attended the University of Wisconsin at Madison where he received a Bachelor of Science in Engineering in June of 1948. He later attended Stevens Institute of Technology where he earned a Master of Science degree. Mr. Slade was a pioneer in transistor and semiconductor technology. He spent eight years in research and advance development at the Radio Corporation of America where he invented the industry's first transistors used in television and FM radio as well as the first transistors used in high performance audio amplification. He then spent 28 years at the IBM Corporation where he served as Manager of Component Product Operations at the IBM plant in Fishkill, NY and Director of Manufacturing Technology in Armonk. After his retirement from IBM in 1984, he was engaged in management consulting for 16 years as well as a founder and board member of several companies in the field of semiconductors. Mr. Slade holds several patents and has published widely in the field of transistor technology. He has published two books, Compressing the Product Development Cycle, and Winning the Productivity Race, the latter which he co-authored with Raj Mohindra. He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Margot Slade and two sons, Steven of Milan, Italy, and Eric of Corona del Mar, California, his daughter-in-law, Joy, and his grandson, Michael. His also survived by his adopted Vietnamese family, Kathy and Bau Tran, their children, Kim Ngan, Ha, and Hieu and great granddaughter, Angela of Kent, Washington, and numerous cousins, nephews, and nieces. Margot F. Slade, 92, a resident of the Town of La Grange, died on February 10, 2015 after battling a long illness. She was born in Frankfurt am Main, Germany, to
Adolf and Selma Friedlein on July 12, 1922. Because of Nazi persecution, she went to England when she was thirteen years old, where she studied for four years, earning The School Certificate and Matriculation to the University of London. In 1940 she came to the United States. She worked at a number of jobs for several years including at the New York City Institute of International Education in New York City where she was in charge of a re-education program for German college students. She then attended the University of Wisconsin where she earned a Bachelors Degree in 1947 and a Masters Degree in 1948, both in Economics. While at college in Wisconsin she met her future husband, Bernard Slade, who predeceased her. They were married for sixty-seven years. In 1956, she and her husband moved to Poughkeepsie. There she was active in a number of organizations, including the League of Women Voters, the Hudson Valley Philharmonic and the Poughkeepsie Day School. She was also co-chairman of the Stevenson for President Committee.
In 1969 she began working as an administrator at Vassar College, where she was Assistant Director of Financial Aid and later the head of the Junior Year Abroad program. After her retirement in 1989, she was active in the Center for Lifetime Studies.
She loved music, literature and hiking.
She is survived by her two sons,

Eric of Corona del Mar, California, her daughter-in-law Joy; her grandson, Michael and her sister, Ruth Epstein.
