     Frederick Jarvis Slade was New Tag circa 1841 in Massachusetts.¹ He was born on March 4, 1848 in Massachusetts [1850 census indicates b 1841].³ He was the son of John Slade and Lucy Lord.¹ He graduated from the College of the City of New York as a mechanical engineer and began a business career as a machinist with Morgan Iron Works.⁴
     Frederick married Amy Lane.⁵ In 1870, he was appointed Treasurer of the New Jersey Steel and Iron Company and held that position until his death. He was a member of the American Society of Mining Engineers and his accurate knowledge of natural philosophy and mechanical engineering made him a most successful investigator of scientific problems.⁴ Frederick died on October 11, 1891 in Trenton, Mercer County, New Jersey, at age 43.⁴ He was buried in Green-Wood Cemetery, Brooklyn, Kings County, New York.³
