HEAD OF AN OLD-TIME FIRM
David Slade of the firm of D.L.Slade & Co., importers of spices, died yesterday [Feb 26, 1912] at Inverness, Florida, after a short illness. He was nearly 93 years old. For many years he lived with his daughter, Mrs. Adeline Frances Fits at Wakefielld. She is president general of the national society of Daughters of the Revolution and has a winter home in Florida.
Mr. Slade was born in Charlestown on April 18, 1819, but soon after his father, Henry Slade, moved to Chelsea and that city was the family home for more than a generation. The elder Slade ahd inherited the tide mill at Revere, which is one of three in the United States, and the property in time came to Mr. Slade by his father's will. From a small beginning David Slade and his brother Levi Slade developed the firm of D & L Slade, which has been in existence seventy-four years. The house is nowamong the largest of those devoted to importing and manufacturing spices, having offices at 100 State Street, with mills at Revere.
Mr. Slade married in 1842 Elizabeth Wilson Whitaker who was a native of England. Her father was a chemist who was sent to America to instruct printers in making and using vegetable dyes. Five children were born, of whom only one, Mrs. Fits, is now living.
For nearly 70 years Mr. Slade was an active member of the Methodist Episcopal Church. In politics he was a Republican. For many years he was a director of the the First National Bank of Chelsea and was also connected with the City Government of Chelsea where he had served in the local militia, and in early life was a member of the hand engine company.5 He was New Tag IGI says b. Also in the household were Frances M. and Eveline M. Hall, apparently sisters of Almira Slade. He was listed as a hardware merchant.6 He was in real estate in 1881.7 Charles died on February 4, 1896 in Chelsea, Suffolk County, Massachusetts, at age 79. He was buried in Woodlawn Cemetery, Everett, Middlesex County, Massachusetts.

She and her sons were involved in more than a dozen real estate transactions 1911-1931. on November 20, 1911.3 Adeline was President General of the National Society of the Daughters of the Revolution [DAR]. Many of her activities are cited in her memoir in DAR Register Vol. 92. She was the Ffounding President of the US Daughters of the War of 1812. Adeline was the only child to survive her father, he lived with her in Wakefield, Massachusetts & Florida.4 Adeline died on March 7, 1938 in Melrose, Massachusetts, at age 76.2 She was New Tag Memoir, Reg. V. 92, p. 392: MRS. Lucy Slade was born on September 15, 1789 in Chelsea, Suffolk County, Massachusetts.1,2 She was the daughter of John Slade and Hannah Torrey.
Lucy married Elias Kidder on May 12, 1811 in North Chelsea, Suffolk County, Massachusetts.3 Lucy built a house on Salem Street on the Slade farm near the bend of the road nearly opposite the old North Revere School. Here she spent the summers with her family and returned to her home on Lime Street in Boston for the winters. She supported her children by making Aunt Kidder's Cordial.4,5 Lucy died on October 14, 1859 in Chelsea, Massachusetts, at age 70.
