     John Townes Slade was born on May 3, 1901 in Purley, Caswell County, North Carolina.¹ He was the son of John Wesley Slade and Alice Susan Hodges.¹ John died on March 27, 1963 in Pennsylvania at age 61.¹

     Bessie Belle Lacy was born in July, 1891 in Virginia [possibly Rockbridge County].^1,2 She was the daughter of Cora A. Fultz.²
     Bessie married Kemper Stuart Slade, son of John Wesley Slade and Alice Susan Hodges, on August 10, 1915 in Rockbridge County, Virginia.¹ Bessie died on May 16, 1933 in Richmond, Virginia, at age 41 and was buried in Forest Lawn Cemetery, Richmond, Henrico County, Virginia.³

     Rosalie Alice Slade was born on October 25, 1916 in Richmond, Virginia.^1,2 She was the daughter of Kemper Stuart Slade and Bessie Belle Lacy.¹
     Rosalie married James M. Henshaw. Rosalie died on June 19, 1986 at age 69.² Rosalie died in Forest Lawn Cemetery, Richmond, Virginia,² and was buried in Forest Lawn Cemetery, Richmond, Henrico County, Virginia.^2,3

     Dorothy Lacy Slade was born on March 21, 1918 in Hopewell, Virginia.^1,2 She was the daughter of Kemper Stuart Slade and Bessie Belle Lacy.¹
     Dorothy married Harry Clay Slade Jr., son of Harry Clay Slade and Fannie Johnston Woods, circa 1938.³ Dorothy died on January 2, 2011 in Danville, Virginia, at age 92.⁴ She was buried in Purley United Methodist Church Cemetery, Caswell County, North Carolina. Her obituary read as follows:

      Dorothy Lacy Slade, of 323 Astor Court, died Sunday, January 2, 2011 at her residence. She was born on March 21, 1918, in Hopewell, Virginia, a daughter of the late Kemper Slade and Bessie Lucy Slade
She was married to Harry Clay Slade, Jr. who predeceased her on June 19, 1981. She was also predeceased by a sister, Helen Clark. Mrs. Slade was an active member of Trinity United Methodist church for 50 years. She had worked in the office of the superintendent of the Caswell County Schools and later at Thalhimers Department Store as a sales clerk. She enjoyed playing bridge. She is survived by two sons, John S. Slade, and David L. Slade, both of Danville; Two daughters-in-law, Vivian Slade and Janice Slade, both of Danville; one sister, Frances Van Allen of Danville; four grandchildren, Greg Slade and wife Sherri, Kevin Slade and wife Beth, David A. Slade, and Stacey Slade and husband Jimmy Lowe; and four great-grandchildren, Madelyn Slade, Rebecca Slade, Alexa Lowe and Connor Slade. A private graveside service will be held Wednesday at Purley United Methodist Church with the Reverend Charles Wickham officiating. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, January 4, 2011 from 5 to 7 pm at the residence, 323 Astor Court.      Frances Lea Slade was born on July 6, 1925 in Richmond, Virginia.^1,2 She was the daughter of Kemper Stuart Slade and Bessie Belle Lacy.¹
     Frances married Robert F. Van Allen circa 1945.² Frances died on February 11, 2013 at age 87.² She was buried in Danville Memorial Gardens, Danville, Virginia.² Her obituary read as follows:

      Frances Van Allen Frances Slade Van Allen, 87, of 300 Dry Fork Road, Dry Fork, VA died at her residence on Monday, February 11, 2013. Mrs. Van Allen was born in Richmond, Virginia on July 6, 1925 a daughter of the late Kemper Stuart Slade and the late Bessie Lacy Slade. She spent most of her life in the Danville area where she was a homemaker. She was a member of Moffett Memorial Baptist Church. Mrs. Van Allan was married to the love of her life, Robert F. Van Allen, Sr., who predeceased her in 2006. In addition to her parents and husband she was predeceased by her son, Douglas Wayne Van Allen who died in 2010; three sisters, Dorothy S. Slade, Helen S. Clark, and Rosalie D. Henshaw. Survivors include a son, Robert F. Van Allen, Jr. and one daughter, Lacy V. Dykes, both of Dry Fork, VA; three grandchildren; four great grandchildren; and her favorite niece, R. Dale Bullock of Glen Allen, Va. Funeral services will be conducted on Thursday, February 14, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. at the Wrenn-Yeatts Westover Chapel with the Reverend Jeffery Wright officiating. Interment will follow the service in Danville Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the funeral home and at other times they will be at the residence, 300 Dry Fork Road, Dry Fork, VA 24549. In lieu of flowers the family suggests that memorial donations be made to the American Heart Association or to the Danville Humane Society.      Helen married Leon Lafayette Clark Jr.³ Helen died on September 17, 2007 in Daytona Beach, Volusia County, Florida,⁴ and was buried in Daytona Memorial Park, Daytona Beach, Volusia County, Florida.⁴ Her obituary read as follows:

      Funeral service for Helen Stuart Clark, 84, Port Orange, who passed away Monday afternoon, Sept. 17, 2007, at Hospice of Port Orange surrounded by her family, will be 10 a.m. Friday, September 21, at Lohman Funeral Home Daytona. The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. today (Thursday, September 20) also at Lohman Funeral Home Daytona. Interment will follow services at Daytona Memorial Park. Helen volunteered as a member of the Halifax Hospital Ladies Auxiliary, and served as past president with over 6500 hours spent spreading joy and kindness. She will be remembered for her undying love, support, and devotion to her family and friends. Helen is survived by her sisters, Dorothy Slade and Francis Lee Van Allen; and nephews, Jack and David Slade.      Fannie Johnston Woods was born on October 27, 1889 in North Carolina.^2,3
     Fannie married Harry Clay Slade, son of John Wesley Slade and Alice Susan Hodges, on December 16, 1913 in Purley, Caswell County, North Carolina.¹ Fannie died on May 5, 1964 at age 74² and was buried in Purley United Methodist Church Cemetery, Caswell County, North Carolina.⁴

     Harry Clay Slade Jr. was born on December 15, 1917 in Caswell County, North Carolina.^1,2 He was the son of Harry Clay Slade and Fannie Johnston Woods.¹
     Harry married Dorothy Lacy Slade, daughter of Kemper Stuart Slade and Bessie Belle Lacy, circa 1938.³ Harry died on June 19, 1981 in Danville, Virginia, at age 63^2,4 and was buried in Purley United Methodist Church Cemetery, Caswell County, North Carolina.⁵

     Herman Slade was born and died in 1920.¹ He was the son of Harry Clay Slade and Fannie Johnston Woods.¹¹

     Lucy married Edwin C. Libby.³ Lucy died on January 15, 2018 in Anne Arundel County, Maryland, at age 96.³

     Halcourt Stuart Slade was born on April 8, 1923 in Virginia.^1,2,3 He was the son of Harry Clay Slade and Fannie Johnston Woods.¹ Halcourt died in October, 1986 in Danville, Virginia, at age 63.³

     Herbert Woods Slade was born on April 8, 1923 in Virginia.^1,2,3 He was the son of Harry Clay Slade and Fannie Johnston Woods.¹
     Herbert married first Betty Jean Ferguson.⁴ Herbert Woods Slade and Betty Jean Ferguson were divorced in 1966.⁵
     Herbert married second Frances Geneva Brady.⁶ Herbert died in June, 1978 in Danville, Virginia, at age 55.³ He was buried in Purley United Methodist Church Cemetery, Caswell County, North Carolina.⁷

     Frances Woodson Wilson was born circa 1892 in Virginia.¹
     Frances married Irvin Hodges Slade, son of John Wesley Slade and Alice Susan Hodges, on April 16, 1914 in Danville, Virginia.² She was living very close to Harry Clay Slade family in 1930.¹

     Wilson Slade was born on November 13, 1914 in Danville, Virginia.^1,2 He was the son of Irvin Hodges Slade and Frances Woodson Wilson.¹
     Wilson Slade registered for the draft for World War II in 1940, while living at Blanch, Caswell County, North Carolina.² Wilson died on January 24, 1994 in Columbia County, Florida, at age 79.^3,4 He was buried in Florida National Cemetery, Bushnell, Sumter County, Florida.⁵

     John Wesley Slade was born circa 1918 in Caswell County, North Carolina.¹ He was the son of Irvin Hodges Slade and Frances Woodson Wilson.¹ John died on October 15, 2001.² He never married.³

     Pemberton Harrison Slade was born on December 10, 1919 in Catawba County, North Carolina.^2,3 He was the son of Irvin Hodges Slade and Frances Woodson Wilson.¹
