      Dorothy Lacy Slade, of 323 Astor Court, died Sunday, January 2, 2011 at her residence. She was born on March 21, 1918, in Hopewell, Virginia, a daughter of the late Kemper Slade and Bessie Lucy Slade
She was married to Harry Clay Slade, Jr. who predeceased her on June 19, 1981. She was also predeceased by a sister, Helen Clark. Mrs. Slade was an active member of Trinity United Methodist church for 50 years. She had worked in the office of the superintendent of the Caswell County Schools and later at Thalhimers Department Store as a sales clerk. She enjoyed playing bridge. She is survived by two sons, John S. Slade, and David L. Slade, both of Danville; Two daughters-in-law, Vivian Slade and Janice Slade, both of Danville; one sister, Frances Van Allen of Danville; four grandchildren, Greg Slade and wife Sherri, Kevin Slade and wife Beth, David A. Slade, and Stacey Slade and husband Jimmy Lowe; and four great-grandchildren, Madelyn Slade, Rebecca Slade, Alexa Lowe and Connor Slade. A private graveside service will be held Wednesday at Purley United Methodist Church with the Reverend Charles Wickham officiating. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, January 4, 2011 from 5 to 7 pm at the residence, 323 Astor Court. Memorials may be made to Trinity United Methodist Church, 409 Arnett Blvd., Danville, VA 24540. Townes Funeral Home & Crematory, 215 West Main Street, is serving the Slade family.5

     Frances married Robert F. Van Allen circa 1945.2 Frances died on February 11, 2013 at age 87.2 She was buried in Danville Memorial Gardens, Danville, Virginia.2 Her obituary read as follows:

      Frances Van Allen Frances Slade Van Allen, 87, of 300 Dry Fork Road, Dry Fork, VA died at her residence on Monday, February 11, 2013. Mrs. Van Allen was born in Richmond, Virginia on July 6, 1925 a daughter of the late Kemper Stuart Slade and the late Bessie Lacy Slade. She spent most of her life in the Danville area where she was a homemaker. She was a member of Moffett Memorial Baptist Church. Mrs. Van Allan was married to the love of her life, Robert F. Van Allen, Sr., who predeceased her in 2006. In addition to her parents and husband she was predeceased by her son, Douglas Wayne Van Allen who died in 2010; three sisters, Dorothy S. Slade, Helen S. Clark, and Rosalie D. Henshaw. Survivors include a son, Robert F. Van Allen, Jr. and one daughter, Lacy V. Dykes, both of Dry Fork, VA; three grandchildren; four great grandchildren; and her favorite niece, R. Dale Bullock of Glen Allen, Va. Funeral services will be conducted on Thursday, February 14, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. at the Wrenn-Yeatts Westover Chapel with the Reverend Jeffery Wright officiating. Interment will follow the service in Danville Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the funeral home and at other times they will be at the residence, 300 Dry Fork Road, Dry Fork, VA 24549. In lieu of flowers the family suggests that memorial donations be made to the American Heart Association or to the Danville Humane Society.       Funeral service for Helen Stuart Clark, 84, Port Orange, who passed away Monday afternoon, Sept. 17, 2007, at Hospice of Port Orange surrounded by her family, will be 10 a.m. Friday, September 21, at Lohman Funeral Home Daytona. The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. today (Thursday, September 20) also at Lohman Funeral Home Daytona. Interment will follow services at Daytona Memorial Park. Helen volunteered as a member of the Halifax Hospital Ladies Auxiliary, and served as past president with over 6500 hours spent spreading joy and kindness. She will be remembered for her undying love, support, and devotion to her family and friends. Helen is survived by her sisters, Dorothy Slade and Francis Lee Van Allen; and nephews, Jack and David Slade. Helen's husband, Leon Lafayette Clark Jr., (deceased), have twin daughters, Sandra Lee Booth and Sheila Ellen Tucci; granddaughters, Katherine Lee Kumm and Deborah K.
