John A. Slade, president and owner of Henry W. Jenkins & Sons Co. funeral establishment, died Tuesday of Parkinson's disease at St. Joseph Medical Center. He was 75 and lived in Timonium. Mr. Slade, a funeral director for nearly 50 years, had headed Jenkins & Sons since 1964. The company has been in continuous operation since 1799.
He was a former president of the Maryland State Funeral Directors Association and a member of the advisory council of the National Selected Morticians.
Born in Mount Savage, he was a graduate of Polytechnic Institute and the Johns Hopkins University. He served in the Navy during World War II.
Services were to be held at 10 a.m. today at the Episcopal Church of the Redeemer, Charles Street at Melrose Avenue.
Mr. Slade's first wife, the former Jacqueline Johnson, died in 1964.
He is survived by his wife of 18 years, the former Meta Joy "Kandi" Foell; three daughters, Mary Beze of Fullerton, Calif., Nancy Pearre of Columbia and Margaret Schleiker of Cherry Hill, N.J; a stepdaughter, Traci K.
