Billie Slade, 80, of News Braunfels, Texas, and a former resident of El Dorado, died Thursday, Feb. 25, in a New Braunfels nursing home. She was born Feb. 2, 1908, in Cleveland County, the daughter of Will Gray and Susie Ward Gray. She was the wife of the late Gordon Slade. She was a member of New Braunfels First Baptist Church. Survivors include three daughters, Mrs. Merle Wendell of New Braunfels, Mrs. Ardeth Marks of Hot springs, and Mrs. Marjorie Graham of New Braunfels; three sons, Gordon Slade of houston, Dale Slade of New Braunfels and Gary Slade of Boyertown, Pa; a sister, Violet Goodwin of Little Rock; 14 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. today at Guadelope Valley Memorial Park at New Braunfels with Dr. Gordon Graham officiating. Burial will be under the direction of Doeppenschmidt Funeral Home of New Braunfels. Memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Foundation.2

Mildred married Richard Vernon.2 Mildred died on May 19, 2022 in Benton, Saline, Arkansas, Mildred Slade Vernon, 96, of Benton, went to be with our Lord on May 19, 2022. She was born June 6, 1925, in El Dorado, to the late Joe Smith Slade and Era Rogers Slade. Mildred was a devout Christian and lifelong member of First Baptist Church, El Dorado, until retiring to Hot Springs. Mildred was an honor graduate from the University of Arkansas- Fayetteville in 1947. She taught Sunday school and was a gifted pianist playing for the children's choirs at church. Mildred was a tenacious bridge player and was a member of many bridge clubs throughout her life. She was also an avid Razorback fan attending many games in the 60s. Mildred loved to cook and care for her family. She was especially involved in her girls' school work and their use of the King's English. Preceding Mildred in death were her husband of 59 years, Richard Vernon; as well as her sister, Josephine Slade. She leaves behind two daughters, Carla (Jim) Robertson and Marsha (Jim) Clevenger; one grandson, Mark (Melissa) Robertson; and her two treasured great-grandchildren, Evan and McKenzie Robertson. She also leaves behind her constant companion and beloved dog, Snuggles. A graveside service will be held at Morning Star Cemetery, Hot Springs, at 9:30 a.m. on Monday, May 23.3
