     Myrtle married Clifford Audiborn Slade, son of Hezikiah Polhill Slade and [?] Bastain, on February 19, 1906 in Travis County, Texas.3 Myrtle died on April 8, 1965 at age 84.2,4 She was buried in Austin Memorial Park Cemetery, Austin, Travis County, Texas.2

Mary Frances Slade1

     Mary Frances Slade was born on June 6, 1919 in Geneva County, Alabama.1 She was the daughter of William Thomas Slade and Martha Jane Sellers.1
     Mary married John William Mixon.1 Mary died on November 11, 2005 in Hartford, Geneva County, Alabama, at age 86.1 She was buried in Travelers Rest Cemetery, Geneva County, Alabama.1 Her obituary read as follows:

      Mrs. Mary Frances Slade Mixson, a resident of 505 Lake Frankie Road in Samson, passed away Friday, Nov. 11, 2005, in Hartford Health Care in Hartford after a long illness. She was 86.

Funeral services will be 2 p.m. today at the First Baptist Church in Samson with the Revs. Sam Totten and Bobby Morgan officiating. Burial will follow in Travelers Rest Cemetery.

Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions may be made to the First Baptist Church Building Fund, 5 N. Canal St., Samson, AL 36477.

Mrs. Mixson was born in Hartford on June 6, 1919, to the late William Thomas Slade and Martha Jane Sellers Slade. She was a 1940 graduate of Samson High School. She was a longtime resident of Samson, a homemaker, and faithful member of the First Baptist Church in Samson.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by one son, Johnny Slade Mixson in 1958; her husband of nearly 58 years, John William (Bill) Mixson in 1998; granddaughter, Leah Holley Day in 2002; and one brother, Thomas Jesse Slade in 1974.

Survivors include one son, William Harold Mixson of Samson; two daughters, Martha Holley and her husband, Nick, of Hartford and Debbie Mixson of Samson; two grandchildren, SSG Johnny Charles Holley and his wife, Angel of Fort Lewis, Washington and Daniel Wade Holley and his wife, Amy, of Knoxville, Tenn; two great-grandchildren, Payton Nicole Holley and Jo Leah Holley of Fort Lewis, Wash; one sister, Margaret Jean O'Steen of Dothan; one sister-in-law, Lillie Slade of Hope Mills, N.C.

The family wishes to thank the employees of Hartford Health Care and Wiregrass Hospice for their loving care of mother.

Serving as pallbearers will be Tim Hopkins, Mike Holley, Jim Miller, Ronald Davis, Travis Carter and Jerry Crews.

     Gilma Byrd was born circa 1927 in Nansemond County, Virginia.1 She was the daughter of Geta Womble and Alvah C. Byrd.1
     Gilma married William Alvie Slade, son of Shields Woode Slade and Adna A. Privette, on February 21, 1946.2 Gilma died on January 21, 2011 in Henrico County, Virginia.1 She was buried in Great Fork Baptist Church Cemetery, Suffolk, Virginia.1 Her obituary read as follows:

      Gilma Byrd Slade, 83, passed away Jan. 21, 2011 at Laurels of University Park in Henrico County. Born in Nansemond County, she was the daughter of the late Geta W. and Alvah C. Byrd. Gilma was predeceased by her son, Vernon W. Slade; and sister, Marguerite B. Orcutt. She was also predeceased by her former husband, William A. Slade. Gilma was a lifelong and faithful member of Great Fork Baptist Church, and worked at Norfolk Navy Yard as a typist, and worked at Franklin Paper Company. She started the reading program at Chorey Apartments. She is survived by her daughters, Lee Slade White and husband Butch of Suffolk, Regina Slade Holt of Richmond; grandchildren, Kelly V. Holt, Dylan Slade Holt, Jason Slade and Shane Slade; great-grandson, Shawn Holt; niece, Susan O. Russo and husband Matty; grandniece, Marguerite Taylor; and grandnephew, John Russo and family. A graveside service will be conducted Monday, Jan. 24, at 1 p.m. in the Great Fork Baptist Church Cemetery by Dr. Rev. Donald Ray Jones. The family will receive friends at R.W. Baker & Co. Funeral Home and Crematory, 509 W. Washington St., Suffolk, Sunday, Jan. 23, from 2 to 4 p.m.1
