William Slade Abbot of Buckfast1
(circa 1374 - )
William Slade Abbot of Buckfast was born circa 1374 in Devon, England. William went to school in Exon, then Oxford where he became a true scholar. He especially loved Aristotle, whose works he would read in schools, of great consternation to parents.2 William became the Abbot of Buckfast, Devon during the time it was a Cistercian Monestary.
"He was our most illustrious Abbot of medieval times" John Stephan O.S.B. St. Mary's Abbey, Buckfast in 1932.
"He furnished the house with fair buildings, and adorned the commonwealth with his learning, leaving behind thirteen books of his own penning."2 History of Buckfast Abbey lists the end of his term as 1415. Did he fall victim to fall ill, possibly the Black Death?
