Ephraim Lafayette Slade1

     Ephraim Lafayette Slade was born on January 8, 1874 in Genesee County, Michigan.2,1 He was the son of Charles Mortimer Slade and Roxanna Calista Hoskins.3
     Ephraim married Edla A. Francis, daughter of John Francis and Mary A. Rose, on January 11, 1898 in Saginaw County, Michigan.4 In 1920, he was a detective with the American Railway Express Company in Detroit.5,1 Ephriam served as sheriff of Cheboygan County from 1923 to 1927. He had a home in the country, located just east of the present site of the Cheboygan Airport, although back in 1927 the airport was far in the future. The road passing by his house was named Slade Road in his honor.6 His last usual residence prior to his death was listed as 1834 Avocado Drive, Carlsbad, California.7 Ephraim died on December 14, 1952 in Patton, San Bernadino County, California, at age 78.8,7 He was buried in Eternal Hills Memorial Park, Oceanside, San Diego County, California.7

     Mildred married Charles Edward Slade, son of Andrew Slade and Georgina Stacy.1 Mildred died on June 25, 1978 at age 742 and was buried in Roselawn Memorial Gardens, Saginaw, Saginaw County, Michigan.2

Andrew K. Slade1

     Andrew K. Slade was born circa 1928 in Saginaw County, Michigan.1,2 He was the son of Charles Edward Slade and Mildred Johnson.1
     Andrew married JoAnn Nelson on June 23, 1951.2 Andrew proudly served his country in the U.S. Army in Korea during WWII and continued his service both active duty and in the Army Reserves for a total of 43 years, retiring from the service after achieving the rank of Colonel. He received his B.S. in Police Administration from Michigan State College, his M.S. degree in Guidance and Counseling from Eastern Michigan University and was a graduate of the U.S. Army Command and General Staff College. In his civilian life, Andrew was employed by the Department of Corrections for the State of Michigan as Supervisor of Parole and Probation for Washtenaw and Livingston counties retiring in 1995.2 Andrew died on October 30, 2009 in Ann Arbor, Michigan.2 His obituary read as follows:

      Slade, Col. Andrew K. Ann Arbor, MI Age 81, died October 30, 2009 at Ann Arbor Hospice with his family by his side. He was born in Saginaw, MI the son of Charles E. and Mildred (Johnson) Slade. On June 23, 1951 he married his beloved wife of 58 years, JoAnn (Nelson) Slade. Andrew proudly served his country in the U.S. Army in Korea during WWII. Slade of Houston, TX; his sisters, Georgene Gifford of S. Pasadena, FL and Mary (Keith) McKinstry of Saginaw,MI; five children, Michael (Kathryn), Ann (Aaron) Pratt, Mark (Christina), Col. Tom(Laurie), and JoEllen (Al) Gauche; and 11 grandchildren, Nathan, Tim, and Kyle Pratt, Andrew, Maddie, and Samantha Slade, Thomas, BethAnn, and Kathryn Slade, and Lindsay and Ryan Gauche. The family will receive friends at the Nie Family Funeral Home, Liberty Road Chapel, 3767 W. Liberty Rd., Ann Arbor, from 6-8 p.m. on Friday, November 13, 2009 and again from 1 p.m. until the time of Memorial Service at 2 p.m. on Saturday, November 14, 2009. As per his wishes cremation has taken place. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in his memory may be made to Arbor Hospice, 2366 Oak Valley Dr. Ann Arbor, MI 48103.      Mary married Harold Keith McKinstry on December 2, 1950.1,2, the son of Harold T. and Grace (Maxwell) McKinstry.3 They were parents of one son and two daughters: Harold (Kate Kloha) McKinstry, Jr., Kathy Goodwin, and Nancy McKinstry.3 Mary died on September 8, 2018 at age 86.2 She was buried in Roselawn Memorial Gardens, Saginaw, Saginaw County, Michigan.2

     Harold married Mary Mildred Slade, daughter of Charles Edward Slade and Mildred Johnson, on December 2, 1950.3,4 They were parents of one son and two daughters: Harold (Kate Kloha) McKinstry, Jr., Kathy Goodwin, and Nancy McKinstry.2 Harold died on April 1, 2021 at age 902 and was buried in Roselawn Memorial Gardens, Saginaw, Saginaw County, Michigan.2
