     Alexander and Mary Fitzhugh Slade, daughter of Cooke Fitzhugh Slade and Sarah Elliott, were the parents of a baby boy, his birth certificate read: Alexander Hamilton McCarthy, [Jr], born July 8, 1918 at Georgetown University Hospital, Washington, DC. Following the birth, Mary continued to live with her parents and is listed as Mary F. Slade in the 1920 & 1930 census. Her son was listed as Jimmy Slade in 1920 census and James Slade in 1930. Jimmy's name was later changed to James Hamilton McAllister.1,3,4 Alexander McCarthy was a solder, U.S. Army, residing at Camp Greene, Charlotte, North Carolina during the time his son was born.5
     Alexander Hamilton McCarthy registered for the draft for World War II in 1942 Arlington, Virginia, living at 937 22nd Street South.6 Alexander died on May 14, 1969 at age 732 and was buried in Culpeper National Cemetery, Culpeper, Virginia.2

     Richard Thomas Slade was born on September 19, 1935 in Waverly, Sussex County, Virginia.1,2 He was the son of Robert Thomas Slade and Marjorie Della Noon.1 Richard died on March 7, 2006 at age 70.2 He was buried in Wakefield UMCh Cemetery, Wakefield, Sussex County, Virginia.2 His obituary read as follows:

      Richard Thomas 'Huck' Slade, 71, passed away Tuesday, March 7, 2006, at his home in Wakefield, Va. Born Sept. 19, 1934, in Sussex County, he was the son of the late Robert Thomas Slade and Marjorie Noon Slade. He was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps. Huck had his own remodeling and repair business and retired as head of the maintenance department at the Virginia Diner after 20 years. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Kathryn B. Slade. He is survived by their son, Thomas Wayne Slade; two stepsons, Charles Lawrence 'Jimmy' Baldwin of Kitty Hawk, N.C., and William Lee 'Billy' Baldwin of Wakefield; one stepdaughter, Erma Sue Williams of Chesterfield, Va; very special friend and caretaker, Elizabeth 'Lisa' O'Connor; two sisters, Almeda Lanier of Wakefield and Margarette Harris of Petersburg; nine grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, March 10, at Purviance Funeral Home, Wakefield, with the Rev. Jim Kerr officiating. Interment will follow in Wakefield Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home and at other times at the residence of David and Almeda Lanier, Wakefield. Purviance Funeral Home, Wakefield, assisted the family with arrangements.3
