      Lily (Slade) Wood, 88, of this town, died Monday at a local nursing home. Born in Port Washington, N.Y., she lived in Northampton before moving to Amherst in 1988. She was a communicant of St. John's Episcopal Church in Northampton, belonged to the Amherst Historical Society and was a volunteer for Cooley Dickinson Hospital, the Northampton Survival Center, Historic Old Deerfield and First Call for Help of Amherst. Her husband, Donald M. Wood, died in 1967. She leaves three sons, Jeffrey of Amherst, Robin of Maine and Donald of Florida; three grandchildren; three stepgrandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. The funeral will be Friday morning at the church in Northampton, with burial in Huntington (N.Y.) Rural Cemetery. Calling hours are late Thursday late afternoon and evening at Amherst Funeral Home.

     Merton Theodore Oliver was born on August 28, 1888 in Herndon, Fairfax County, Virginia.² He was the son of Theodore Oliver and Mary Catherine Wiley.^3,1 Merton Theodore Oliver was registered for the military draft in World War I on June 5, 1917 in Leesburg, Loudoun County, Virginia.²
     Merton married third Mary Fitzhugh Slade, daughter of Cooke Fitzhugh Slade and Sarah Elliott, on September 3, 1948 in Falls Church, Fairfax County, Virginia, Their marriage certificate indicates that Mary was 50, widowed, and married twice before. Mert was 60, widowed and also married twice before.³ Merton died circa 1964 in Fairfax County, Virginia.⁴
