     Jonah P. Slade was born before 1796 in Virginia [estimated from marriage dates and 1840 census].² He was the son of Bartholomus Slade.³
     Jonah married first Maria Lukehard on February 1, 1813 in Henrico County, Virginia.⁴ Jonah P. served as a Private in the 6 Reg't (Coleman's) January to May, 1814, Virginia Militia also in the Virginia Malitia's 19th Reg't (Ambler's.)⁵
     Jonah married second Susannah Leizar on October 20, 1825 in Rowan County, North Carolina.⁶
     Jonah married third Matilda Brantley on August 17, 1830 in North Carolina.⁶

     Hubbard T. Slade was born in 1873 in Florida.¹ He was the son of Theodore G. Slade and Augusta Peacock.¹
     Hubbard married Elizabeth [?] circa 1896.²

     Raleigh Walter Slade was born on December 16, 1875 in Florida.^1,2 He was the son of Theodore G. Slade and Augusta Peacock.¹
     Raleigh married Jetlie Lee Warren circa 1903.³ Raleigh Walter Slade was registered for the military draft in World War I on September 12, 1918 in Pinellas County, Florida.² He resided in Pinelles, Pinellas County, Florida, in 1945; recorded as age 70, living alone at 824 Tuskavilla.⁴ Raleigh died on November 17, 1956 in Florida at age 80^5,6 and was buried in Clearwater Municipal Cemetery, Clearwater, Pinellas County, Florida.⁶

     Carson Samuel Slade was born on December 9, 1897 in New Richmond, Clermont County, Ohio.² He was New Tag in December, 1898 in Ohio.³ He was the son of Edward David Slade and Olive Judas Potter.^4,3
     Carson married Mozella B. Criswell circa 1922.⁵ She was the daughter of Mary H Wessel and Henry Criswell.⁶ Census indicates Carson is a foreman at an adding machine company and his parents were both born in Ohio.⁵ The 1930 census also lists Gladys Kessler, 33, [step] sister, living in household of Carson Slade. She is a "forelady" at a laundry. [foreman?] It shows her birthplace as Virginia and both of her parents as born in West Virginia.⁵ In 1940, Carson was divorced and living with Esther and Robert Kessler, his half-brother.⁷ Carson died on August 7, 1958 at age 60⁸ and was buried in Spring Grove Cemetery, Cincinnati, Hamilton County, Ohio.⁹

     Robert Slade was born on September 20, 1818 in Bloomsbury, Middlesex, England.¹ He was the son of Robert Slade and Elizabeth [?].¹ Robert Slade was baptized on October 14, 1818; St George's Bloomsburg Parish.¹

     Eunice Mamie Brown was born on December 15, 1827 in Nova Scotia, Canada.^2,3,4
     Eunice married Robert Slade circa 1844.² Eunice died on April 26, 1912 in Chatham, Kent County, Ontario, Canada, at age 84.⁵

     George H. Slade was born in August, 1846 in Canada.^4,1,5 He was the son of Robert Slade and Eunice Mamie Brown.⁵
     George married Hannah M. Edsell on April 5, 1869 in Haldimand, Ontario, Canada,^1,6, the daughter of Rachel & Peter Edsell.⁶ George immigrated from Ontario, Canada in 1871.⁷ George is listed as a carriage maker.⁸ George immigrated from Canada to Iowa in 1881.¹

     William Slade was born circa 1855 in Newfoundland.²
     William married Catherine [?].³ William Slade was a Roman Catholic.⁴⁵⁶⁷ William died on April 12, 1905 in Salmon Cove, Newfoundland.⁸

     John Wesley Slade was born circa 1835 in Tennessee.^1,2 He was the son of Jonah Slade.³ John Wesley Slade was New Tag circa 1836 in Tennessee.⁴ It is surspected that John Wesley Slade's father was Jonah Slade of Virginia. Later census indictes both of his parents were born Virginia. Wesley Slade, 14, was living with this family.⁵
     John married Martha Elizabeth Fox.¹
     John married second Elizabeth Woods say 1864 in Tennessee.²
     John married Mary Elizabeth Williford, daughter of Lewis Williford and Elizabeth [?], on July 31, 1878 in Jefferson County, Tennessee.^6,7 John Wesley Slade was listed as J. W. Slade on the death certificate of his son, Henry Madison Slade.²⁴

Oscar Slade's death certificate indicates his father is John Wesley Slade & mother is Marie Elizabeth Wolfe, the informant was his brother, Frank.

     Joseph Jefferson Slade was born on May 17, 1832 in Virginia.^2,3 He was the son of Henry T. Slade and Mariah Freeman.² Joseph Jefferson Slade was shown as Josiah in the 1850 census.²
     Joseph married Rebecca J. Jackson on March 10, 1858.⁴ Joseph died on May 30, 1895 at age 63 and was buried in Shiloh Baptist Church Cemetery, Dinwiddie County, Virginia.³

     John Slade was born circa 1792 likely in Virginia The date and place of John's birth is estimated from the date of his marriage in 1811.² He was the son of Bartholomus Slade.¹ From John's will, we do know that Jonah is John's brother, but it is only speculation that Bartholmus was their father.¹
     John married Martha T. Pulliam, daughter of Mosby Pulliam and Sally Timberlake, on January 17, 1811 in Henrico County, Virginia.^3,4 John was Executor for the 1818 will of his friend, James Gosden.⁵ Gosden's will left a bequest to John's daughter Mary Slade and to James Slade, son of Jonah Slade, John's brother. John made his will in June, 1826 in Richmond, Virginia, You can view a copy here.¹ John died circa 1826 in Richmond, Virginia.¹ James Gosden, died Richmond, Virginia about 1817. James was married to Mary ? and had a daughter named Mary Ann Gosden. This daughter married Thomas Hamilton Abney in Richmond, Virginia and they later moved to Alabama. I "think" James Gosden had two sisters, Mary and Ann, and this Gosden family might have origionally been from Delaware.

Mary married Thomas Hamilton ABNEY, son of Samuel ABNEY Jr. and Mary KENNEDY, on 24 December 1817 in Richmond, Virginia. Mary's father or step-father was a very well-to-do man and they inherited his fine house which he had built on his second wife's property.3
Mary Ann Gosden was named an heir in the will of James Gosden/Gausden dated in 1818 in Richmond, Virginia. She was willed the Gosden House upon the death of her step-mother.

The household was listed as one male age 30-39 [Thomas]; one male age 5-9 [Alexander]; one male under 5 [Cinncinatus]; one female age 20-29 [Mary Ann]; two females age 10-14 [Mary Cecil, Frances]; one female age 5-9 [Aurelia]; and two females under 5 [Virginia, Amanda].4

The household was listed as one male age 40-49 [Thomas]; one male age 15-19 [Alexander]; one male age 10-14 [Cinncinatus]; one male age 5-9 [Henry]; three males under 5 [Sam, Zach, Thomas]; one female age 40-49 [Mary Anne]; one female age 20-29 [Mary Cecil]; one female age 15-19 [Aurelia]; two females age 10-14 [Virginia, Amanda]; and one female under 5 [???]. Living with them was one female age 60-69 [Mary Kennedy Abney]. They owned 13 slaves.5
Mary Ann Gosden died on 3 April 1848 in Bibb County, Alabama, at age 55.3 She was buried in Abney Family Cemetery, Maplesville, Chilton County, Alabama.

     Bartholemew Slade was born circa 1844 in Tennessee.² He was the son of Jonah P. Slade. It is likely that he is the son of Jonah Slade, who is brother of Bartholemew Slade of Richmond, Virginia.²

     Isaac Calkin Slade was born in March, 1843 in St. Pancras, Regent's Park, Middlesex, England.^1,2,3 He was the son of Thomas Slade and Elizabeth Major.⁴
     Isaac married Carrie J. Cook on August 23, 1871 in Winona County, Minnesota.⁵ Isaac died in 1921⁶ and was buried in Woodlawn Cemetery, Winona, Winona County, Minnesota.⁶

     James Adkins Slade was born on November 2, 1814 in Richmond, Virginia.^2,3 He was the son of John Wesley Slade. James moved with his family to Randolph County Illinois before 1834.¹
     James married Ellen K. Smith circa 1839.^3,4 Ellen was the daughter of Dr. John and Martha Brown Smith. He was a prominent physician in Belleville, Illinois for more than 25 years.¹ James Adkins Slade died on December 15, 1869 of typhoid in Lesterville, Reynolds County, Missouri, at age 55.⁵

The following death notice appeared in the Iron County newspaper:
     Died: Lesterville, Reynolds Co., Dec 15, 1869, James Adkins Slade aged 55 years, one month and 13 days. He was born in Richmond Va. living in Reynolds Co. past 22 years. Member of Missionary Baptist Church. Leaves a wife and large family to morn.⁵

[Compiler's Note]: A biographical sketch written about James Adkins Slade in the Reynolds County, Missouri Sesquicentennial Year publication indicates that James Adkins' father was John Wesley Slade of Richmond, Virginia, who settled in Randolph County, Illiinois about 1830. It is of interest to note that James named his first son John Wesley Slade and his second son James Bartholomew Slade.

There was another John Wesley Slade who was named as a son in the 1826 will of John Slade of Richmond, Virginia. However, that John Wesley Slade mentioned in the will was still a minor in 1826, indicating he was born after 1808, making him about the same age as this James Adkins Slade. Thererfore, the two John Wesley Slade's are more likely to be cousins rather than the same person. However, it should also be noted that James Adkins Slade of Missouri named his first son John Wesley Slade. We feel with some certainly, that these two families must be closely related in some manner.

Another train of thought, and possibility is that the Sesquicentennial publication was in error and the John Adkins Slade was actually the James "G" Slade mentioned in the 1826 will who was son of Jonah Slade, brother of John Slade of Richmond.¹

     Thomas Slade was born circa 1821 in England.¹ He was the son of Thomas Slade and Mary Tucker.

     Charles Slade was born on April 8, 1832 in Somersetshire, England.² He was the son of Thomas Slade and Mary Tucker.^1,3 Charles immigrated from to the United States in 1843.⁴
     Charles married Elizabeth Lyddon circa 1855.^1,5 Charles Slade was registered for the Civil War in June, 1863 in Knox County, Illinois, farmer, born England.⁶
     Charles married second Annie M. Paul, daughter of George Paul and Hannah Symes, on May 23, 1878 in Warren County, Illinois.⁷ Charles died on January 13, 1902 at age 69² and was buried in Fuller Cemetery, Knox County, Illinois.²

     Elizabeth Lyddon was born on January 24, 1837 in England.²
     Elizabeth married Charles Slade, son of Thomas Slade and Mary Tucker, circa 1855.^1,3 Elizabeth died on April 17, 1876 at age 39² and was buried in Fuller Cemetery, Knox County, Illinois.²
