     Mark married Jane Wheller on December 25, 1832 in Langport, Somerset, England.^3,1 Mark Slade was a stone mason in 1861.⁴ The will of Mark Slade late of Huish Episcopi Somerset, mason, who died July 24, 1884 at Huish Episcopi was proved at Taunton Apr 3, 1889 by William Slade of Huish Episcopi, beerhouse keeper, the Son & one of the Executors.⁵

     Emanuel Slade was born in 1693 in North Perrott, Somerset, England.² He was the son of Samuel Slade and Joan [?].²
     Emanuel married Elizabeth [?].^3,4 Emanuel Slade resided in North Perrott, Somerset, on October 12, 1760.⁵ Emanuel died on October 12, 1760 in Somerset, England.⁶ He was buried in St. Martin's Churchyard, North Perrott, Somerset, England.⁶

     Jesse Slade was born circa 1843 in Spencer's Cove, Newfoundland.^2,3
     Jesse married Caroline Boutcher.⁴
     Jesse married Emma Julia Masters on January 26, 1894 in Harbour Buffett, Newfoundland, wit: Elmira Slade & Jonathan Boutcher. Jesse was living at Mussel Harbour Arm¹, the daughter of Eliza Collett & Samuel Masters.⁵ Jesse was serving as Postmaster at the time of his death.³ Jesse died on December 18, 1915 in Mussel Harbour Arm, Placentia Bay, Newfoundland.³

     William Slade was born circa 1816 in Middlesex, England.³ He was the son of William Slade.⁴ His father's name, William, was mentioned in William's marriage record to Caroline Allen.²
     William married Caroline Allen, daughter of James Allen, on July 16, 1837 in Middlesex at St. Mary Whitechapel.² William died in 1869 in Tunbridge Wells, Kent, England, Q4 1869.⁵

     Edward Walker Slade was born on October 11, 1793 in Bristol, England.² He was the son of William Slade and Sarah [?].² Edward Walker Slade was baptized on December 1, 1793; at St James Bristol.²
     Edward married first Mary Blake on July 3, 1814 in Gloucester, England.³ The entire family immigrated from Bristol, England to the United States aboard the Barque Woodman arriving on July 7, 1834. The family included Edward and Mary Slade (ages 42, and 40) and their children Anthony age 18, Clara age 15, Emma age 14, Mary age 13, Robert age 12 and Horatio age 10.⁴ Edward was widowed when his wife, Mary, died on January 20, 1863 in Cuyahoga County, Ohio.
     Edward married second Samantha Doane, daughter of Timothy Doan and Polly Pritchard, on November 3, 1865 in Ohio.^5,6 Edward died on July 3, 1867 at age 73.³ He was buried in East Cleveland Twp Cemetery, Cleveland, Cuyahoga County, Ohio.³

     Charles Henry Slade was born in October, 1881 in England.³ Charles immigrated from from England to United States in 1896.³
     Charles married Clara Anne Harding, daughter of Mr. Harding and Sarah [?].¹ Charles Henry Slade was registered for the military draft in World War I on September 12, 1918 in Malden, Middlesex County, Massachusetts, painter, wife Clara Annie.²

     William Slade was born circa 1811 in St. Swithin, Worcestershire, England.¹
     William married Ann [?].¹

     Samuel Slade was born in December, 1822 in England.¹
     Samuel married Sarah [?].² Samuel died on January 30, 1908 at age 85.³ He was buried in New Forest Cemetery, Utica, Oneida County, New York.³

     Bennajah Slade was born in 1790 in North Carolina.¹
     Bennajah married Sarah [?].¹ Benjah Slade of Perry County, by cash sale, acquired SE/SE & SW/SE, sec 31, T3-S, R 2-W, 3rd PM in Washington County, Illinois, on October 10, 1840.² Corporal Bennjah Slade acuired land by the Scrip Warrant Act, 40 Ac, SW/NW, sec 9, T4S, R2W, 3rd PM.²

     James is estimated to have been born about 1795 in England. We have no documentation to substantiate the year, but is only an estimate based upon his wife's age and 1850 census info of his children. It is likely that he immigrated to the United States with wife and children, but we have no evidence as yet whether he did or not. His wife Rebecca and children were found in 1850 census living in Boston, Massachusetts, so it is likely that he was deceased prior to that time.¹ He was New Tag on November 12, 1796 in Reading, Berkshire, England.²
     James married Rebecca Anne Peacock on August 28, 1822 in Newington St. Mary Parish, London, England.³ James died before 1850.¹

     W. William Slade was born circa 1876 in Missouri.¹ His father was born West Virginia and his mother in Missouri.¹
     W. married Betty [?] circa 1915.¹

     Jonah Slade was born between 1790 and 1800 likely in Virginia. John Wesley Slade indicated in 1880 census that both his parents were born in Virginia.² Jonah Slade appeared on 1840 census of Grainger County, Tennessee His household was as follows: 1m<5, 1m 5-9, 1m 40-49; 1f<5, 1f5-9, 1f15-19, 1f 30-39, Jonah was employed in manufacturing and trade. no slaves.^1,3

     William Slade was born circa 1779 in Shepton Mallet, Somerset, England.²
     William married Jane [?].¹ William died before 1851 as his wife Jane was listed as a widow in 1851 Somerset census.³

     Joseph Slade was New Tag in 1801 in Virginia.¹ He was born between 1801 and 1808 in Virginia [depending on which census is used].^1,2 He was New Tag in 1808 in Virginia.² Joseph appeared in the 1840 census of Northampton County, North Carolina by himself, a male 30 to under 40 years of age.³
     Joseph married Frances Hodges, daughter of Richard Hodges and Susan [?], on December 23, 1847 in Northampton County, North Carolina.⁴
     Joseph married second Judith Hodges, daughter of Richard Hodges and Susan [?], on May 29, 1856 in North Carolina.⁵ Judith's first marriage was to Thomas Parker Vaughn on Jan 11, 1844.²

     Albert married first Minnie [?].² Albert Richard Slade was born circa 1871 in England.³ Albert R Slade is divorced from Minnie Slade on Feb 16, 1905 in Pueblo, Colorado. [As yet, we have not found a record for this marriage]²
     Albert married second Mattie Belle Davis on July 20, 1906 in La Junta, Otero County, Colorado. [she is shown as Mattie B Davis, 18, he is 35]^4,3 She was the daughter of Ida May Croussore and Jefferson Davis Hardin, the brother of John Wesley Hardin, Texas gunslinger.¹
     Albert married third Edna Campbell on June 8, 1926 in Denver, Arapahoe County, Colorado. [he was shown age 45 & she 26]⁵ After Albert married Edna, they lived in Southern Colorado and had two children.¹ Albert does not show up on any census 1900, 1910, 1920 or 1930 or WW1 draft cards, or any other records we have searched.

     William Slade Sr. was born on August 18, 1875 in Lanharry, Glamorgan, Wales.²
     William married Mirian Davies circa 1900 in England.¹ William Slade Sr. William Slade, with his wife and eight children, sailed from Southampton, England on January 6, 1926 aboard the USS Majestic and arriving in New York on January 13, 1926. William and his children are listed as Welsh descent, his wife Marian, English. The manifest shows that their last place of permanent residence was Gorseinan, Wales. We interpret that to be Gorseinon, Swansea, West Glamorgan, UK. William was listed as a steel worker and their final destination recorded as McKeesport, Pennsylvania. in 1925.² William immigrated from Southampton, England aboard the MaJestic, arriving to Port of New York on January 13, 1926.^3,2 He was naturalized on July 28, 1926 in Pittsburgh, Allegheny County, Pennsylvania.³

     Thomas Slade was born on November 17, 1805 in St. Paul, Hammersmith, Middlesex, England.¹
     Thomas married Elizabeth Major in England. Thomas was a Baptist Minister who immigrated with his family in about 1851.¹ Thomas apparently died before 1870 as his wife, Elizabeth, was living with their son, Arthur, and his family in the 1870 census.²

     William Slade was born in 1808 in Vermont.² He was New Tag in 1811 in Vermont.¹
     William married Susan M Phillips, daughter of William H Phillips and Elizabeth [?], circa 1843 likely in Missouri.² William was listed in 1860 census as a grocery keeper, real property worth $1,000, personal $800.¹ It is likely that William Slade died in May, 1869 because his wife Susan was living with their son William at time of the 1870 and 1880 census. In Boone County, Missouri.³

     Stephen F. Slade was born in February, 1872 in Florida and both his parents born in Florida.² He was the son of Stephen F. Slade Sr. and Julia Martha [?].¹ Family tradition indicates the family resided in Homestead, Dade County, Florida, about 1890.³
     Stephen married second Mary Cornelius Morrison on July 10, 1896 in Princess Anne County, Virginia.⁴

Note from compiler: There are several descrepencies between the 1900 and 1910 census entries for the family of Stephen Slade. This causes one to question whether he had two wifes: Lucy, and Julia Martha, or if the enumeration made several mistakes and the two were the same person??


1900 shows Stephen's wife, Lucy, 25, married 5 years, mother of two children, both living, she was born in Florida, as were both her parents. Their children were son Lee, 3 and daughter Lucy, 1.

1910 shows Stephen's wife, Mary, 30, first marriage for both, 13 years, she is mother of six children, all living. She was born in Tennessee, her father born in New York and her mother in Virginia. The children are son, Lea 13, Julia 9, Fred 7, Lester 4, Margarette 2 and Mary, 5/12. (daughter Lucy, who would be 11, is not mentioned)

Stephen's mother is living with him both times, but in 1900 she is named Martha, mother of one and Julia, mother of two in 1910.^2,5

     John Slade was born circa 1828 in England.² He was New Tag circa 1828 in Canada.¹
     John married Christina Gillmand.¹ John is a shoemaker and lists his family religion as Spriitualist.²

     James Slade was born circa 1786 in Amersham, Hertfordshire, England.¹
     James married Rebecca Peters on November 19, 1804 in Amersham, Hertfordshire.^2,3 James Slade was a potter in 1841.¹

     Captain Joseph Slate was born on February 22, 1734 in Norwich, New London County, Connecticut, the son of Daniel and Mary (Sabin) Slate.² He was New Tag on February 22, 1734 in Bernardston, Franklin County, Massachusetts.¹
     Captain Joseph Slate married Mary White on May 5, 1758.³ Joseph died on January 26, 1818 at age 83.¹ He was buried in Old Cemetery, Bernardston, Franklin County, Massachusetts.⁴

Please Note: By the third generation, all of his grandchildren spelled their last name SLADE rather than Slate. He Captain Joseph Slate, son of Daniel and Mary (Sabin) Slate, was born in Norwich, Connecticut, February 22, 1734, and died November 26, 1818. He came to Bernardston from Norwich May 19, 1763, and built a log cabin which he occupied until his death. Captain Joseph Slate became widely prominent in civic affairs and was chosen to various town offices. He served in a local office in 1767 and was selectman from 1779 until 1782, was widely noted in military affairs and served for five years in the French and Indian War. He was also active in the War of the Revolution, bearing a worthy and distinguished part, although past his prime, being forty-two years of age when the war broke out. Captain Slate married, on May 5, 1758, Mary White, of Colchester, Connecticut, who was born 16 Aug 1738 and died 17 Jan 1827, at the age of eighty-nine years. They were the parents of eleven children.

     John married Isabella Elizabeth Rhine.¹ Isabell is listed as a widow in the 1910 census, so apparently, John died prior to that time.³

     Charles Rudd Slade was New Tag circa 1791 in England.² He was born circa 1792 in England.³
     Charles married Harriett Pierson on July 20, 1827 in Leeds, Yorkshire, England, St. Peter.^4,2 Charles Rudd Slade was a toll keeper on the 1851 census in 1852.³ He was a member of Church of England.⁵ Charles was widowed when his wife, Harriett, died in 1873.⁶

     George Slade was New Tag circa 1817 in Yeovil, Somerset, England.¹ He was born circa 1818 in Marsh, Somerset, England.²
     George married Eliza [?].¹ George Slade was a shoemaker. George died on March 20, 1892 in Phillack, Cornwall, England.³

     Frederick T. Slade was born on July 29, 1866 in Donyatt, Somerset, England.^2,3,4 He was the son of George Slade and Mary [?].²
     Frederick married Sarah Ann Helder circa 1890.⁵
     Frederick married Sarah Ann Helder.¹ Frederick T. Slade was a blacksmith & farrier in 1911 in Bexley, Kent, England.³

     Amos Horton Slade was New Tag [one census shows him born Massachusetts] circa 1818 in Vermont.^1,5,6 He was born circa 1822 in Vermont.⁴ He was the son of Elijah Slade and Ammarilda Chase.⁷
     Amos married Louisa [?].⁴
     Amos married second Nancy Follick, daughter of Jacob Follick and Sarah [?].¹ Amos died on July 10, 1893 in Schuylerville, Saratoga County, New York.⁸

The 1850 US census of Saratoga Co, NY shows Horton Slade, 28 b VT and his wife Louisa, 28 b NY. The same 1850 census shows Nancy Follick, 33, living in hh Jacob & Sarah Follick. The 1855 New York State census shows Amos H Slade, 32 b VT, living with his wife Nancy 37 b NY, in the hh of Jacob & Sarah Follick. Also in this census is Oscar D. Slade, 4 b NY. The 1860 US Census of Schuylerville, shows Hoit Slade 36 VT, Nancy 40 NY, Oscar D 9 NY. The 1900 US census of Schuylerville, Saratoga Co, NY records Oscar D Slade as born Feb 1850.
     Considering all these dates & details, it appears likely that Oscar D Slade was child of Louisa & Horton Slade, rather than Nancy Follick & Horton. It is possible that his mother Louisa died in childbirth and Horton married again soon to have a mother for his baby son. I have found no record of additional children of Horton.^9,4,10

     Robert Slade was born circa 1801 in Shepton Beauchamp, Somerset, England.¹ He was the son of Peter Slade and Martha Best.^2,3 Robert Slade was baptized on March 11, 1801 in Walcot, Somerset, England; St Swithin.⁴ He was New Tag circa 1807 in Somerset, England.⁵
     Robert married Mary Welch on February 1, 1825 in Shepton Beauchamp, Somerset.⁶
     Robert married second Eunice Welch, daughter of Edward Welch, on December 2, 1845 in Parish of Shepton Beauchamp^2,7, the daughter of Edward Welch.²
