James Hugh Slade1

(24 March 1936 - 18 September 2019)
     James Hugh Slade was born on March 24, 1936 in Sydney, Cape Breton County, Nova Scotia, Canada.1 He was the son of John Slade and Norah Mae Bonaparte.1
     James married first June MacDonnell.1,2
     James married Marcella Cook1, the daughter of Joseph and Bessie Cook.1 James died on September 18, 2019 at age 83.1 His obituary read as follows:

      James Hugh Slade It is with deep sadness we announce the sudden passing of our beloved husband, father and grandfather Jim on Wednesday September 18, 2019 at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital. Jim's greatest accomplishment was his family who were the love of his life and always at his side especially throughout his brief illness. Born in Sydney on March 24, 1936, Jim was the son of the late John and Nora (Bonaparte) Slade of Sydney.

Jim will be lovingly remembered and deeply missed by his loving and devoted wife Marcella who he truly adored; his children,
Cheryl (Michael) St. John,
Carolynn (John) Ratchford,
Robert (Jackie) Slade,
Darlene Mackenzie (Kevin), all of Sydney,
Lorelei (Blaise) Coombes MacCormick, Scotchtown and
son-in-law John Mackenzie, Sydney.

He will also be sadly missed and lovingly remembered in the hearts of his 12 grandchildren; Cheryl Lynn, Sean, Tyler, Robbie, Evan, Tracy, Corey, Kyle, Barbara, Shelby, Kendra and Adam as well as 10 great-grandchildren. Also surviving are his

sisters-in-law Nettie Slade,
Doreen Slade,
Gloria Cook;
brother and sister-in-law Edward and Genevieve Cook;
uncle Greg Bonaparte as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends.

Jim's love for cars was evident as he worked as an autobody man for 55 years priding himself in doing meticulous work and where many special and lifelong friendships were formed around his garage. Jim loved people and all were welcomed around his kitchen table for some hot tea, many conversations and meals. For years, Jim along with other fine musicians played in a band where his love for music shone through playing various instruments; base, guitar and fiddle. Great music and memories were made throughout Jim and Marcella's home and their campfires, they were also known to cut a rug or two as they danced amazingly together.

Besides his parents, Jim was also predeceased by his first wife
June (MacDonnell) Slade;
brother Sonny; father and mother-in-law Joseph and Bessie Cook.

Donations in Jim's memory may be made to the Horizon Achievement Centre.

Cremation has taken place and funeral mass will be held on Monday, September 23rd at 10 a.m. in the Parish of Saint Leonard, Mt. Carmel Ave with Father Ray Huntley officiating, followed by a luncheon at the Parish Centre, 310 Convent St, New Waterford. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of McLellan Brothers Funeral Home, 3183 Plummer Ave., New Waterford, 902-862-7500. To send online condolences, go to: www.mclellanfuneralhome.com.1
