The Petition of Sarah Slade of Chamberlains in Conception Bay, Newfoundland, Widow

Humbly Sheweth

That your Petitioner's husband, Matthew Slade, late of Chamberlains aforesaid, Farmer, deceased, departed this life on or about the sixth day of December last (1884) having previously made and published his last Will and Testament hereto annexed.
That the said Matthew Slade left him sorrowing your Petitioner and the following children namely two sons James and Edward and two daughters Elizabeth, wife of William Anthony, and Ann, wife of William Barton, the said children being all over age.
That the Estate of the said Matthew Slade, deceased, at the time of his death did not exceed the sum of four hundred dollars in value according to the best of your Petitioner's opinion and belief.
That no letters of probate of the said will or administration of the said Estate have been granted.
Your Petitioner humbly prays that letters of administration "cum testament annexo" of the Estate of the said Matthew Slade, deceased, may be granted to her and as in duty bound will ever pray.
Dated at St. John's this twenty seventh day of February A.D. 1885.
