     Fred Robert Slade Jr. was born in 1929 in Portsmouth, Virginia.^1,2 He was the son of Fred Robert Slade and Julia Walsh.¹
     Fred married Mary Eleanor Davis. Fred Robert Slade Jr. was an independent real estate developer and a member of Saint Paul's Catholic Church. He enjoyed playing tennis and was active at the Portsmouth YMCA.² Fred died on January 31, 2009² and was buried in Meadowbrook Memorial Gardens, Suffolk, Virginia.² His obituary read as follows:

     Fred R. Slade Jr., 80, died Jan. 31, 2009, in Bon Secours Maryview Medical Center. Mr. Slade was born in Portsmouth, the son of the late Fred R. Slade and Julia Walsh Slade. He was an independent real estate developer and a member of Saint Paul's Catholic Church. He enjoyed playing tennis and was active at the Portsmouth YMCA. He was the widower of Mary Eleanor Davis Slade since her death in 2005. Left to cherish his memory are two daughters and their husbands, Wendy Slade Mathias and Barry and Mary Slade Pollock and Cam, all of Chesapeake; four grandchildren, Jordan Mathias, Zoe Mathias, Joel Pollock and Clay Pollock; a sister, Beverly Anderson of Chesapeake; a brother, Leo F. Slade Sr. of Windsor, Va; plus a number of nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday in Meadowbrook Mausoleum Chapel. Following the entombment, friends may join the family at his daughter's home, 3324 Meadowbrook Lane, Chesapeake, VA 23321. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Portsmouth or Chesapeake library or to the Portsmouth YMCA.      Joseph Wakeman Slade was known as Wakeman.² He was born on October 23, 1895 in Franklin, Isle of Wight County, Virginia.^1,3 He was the son of Henry T. Slade and Mary Elizabeth Hedgpeth.^2,4 Joseph Wakeman Slade was registered for the military draft in World War I on June 15, 1917 in Isle of Wight County, Virginia.¹ The 1920 census indicates he is single, in the Army, working as an automobile machanic.
     Joseph married Bernice Manala Talbot, daughter of Richard Baxter Talbot and Lorena Ramey, circa 1921.⁵ Joseph died on June 6, 1962 at age 66.⁶ He was buried in Peninsula Memorial Park, Newport News, Virginia.⁶

     Robert James Slade was born on November 12, 1891 in Dendron, Surry County, Virginia.^1,2 He was the son of Peter Ruffin Slade and Mary Ida James.³ Robert James Slade was registered for the military draft in World War I on June 5, 1917 in Dendron, Virginia.¹
     Robert married Edna Estell Whitemore on September 16, 1917 in Dendron, Virginia.⁴ In 1930, he was working at Camp Lee, Virginia for Doyle & Russel of Richmond, Virginia.⁵ Robert died on July 13, 1967 in Nansemond County, Virginia, at age 75.^6,7 He was buried in Wakefield UMCh Cemetery, Wakefield, Sussex County, Virginia.⁸

     Garnett Clyde Slade was known as Garnie.² He was born on October 21, 1888 in Dendron, Surry County, Virginia.^2,3 He was the son of Peter Ruffin Slade and Mary Ida James.¹ Garnett Clyde Slade was registered for the military draft in World War I on June 5, 1917 in Dendron, Virginia, supports father.²
     Garnett married Carrie Smith Judkins on June 10, 1920 in Surry County, Virginia,⁴, the daughter of Mollie and Emmett J. Judkins. Garnett died on January 7, 1969 in Virginia at age 80^5,6 and was buried in Wakefield UMCh Cemetery, Wakefield, Sussex County, Virginia.⁶

     William Oscar Slade was born on April 11, 1888 in Surry County, Virginia.¹ He was the son of Paris Emmet Slade and Adelena Andrews Wells.³ William Oscar Slade was registered for the military draft in World War I on June 5, 1917 in Dendron, Surry County, Virginia.¹ He was registered for World War 2 draft in 1942 while living in Hopewell, Virginia, Mrs. P.I. Ledbetter listed as someone always knowing his address.⁴ William died on January 8, 1953 at age 64² and was buried in Wakefield UMCh Cemetery, Wakefield, Sussex County, Virginia.²

     Wyatt Slade II was born on November 30, 1867 in Virginia.^3,4,2 He was the son of Wyatt Slade and Martha Jane Holdsworth.
     Wyatt married Ada Belle Barrett circa 1905.¹ Also living in this household were step-children: John A. Richardson 19, Herman B. Richardson 18, smf Grace B. Richardson 10, all born in Virginia. Wyatt died on June 3, 1933 at age 65⁴ and was buried in Wakefield UMCh Cemetery, Wakefield, Sussex County, Virginia.^4,2

     Ada Belle Barrett was born in April, 1868 in Virginia.² About 1889, Ada married John B. Richardson and they had three children: John A, born June, 1891, Herman, born July 1892, and Gracie, born September, 1897.¹
     Ada married Wyatt Slade II, son of Wyatt Slade and Martha Jane Holdsworth, circa 1905.²

     Wyatt Slade III was born on January 10, 1910 in Surry County, Virginia.^1,2 He was the son of Wyatt Slade II and Ada Belle Barrett.¹ Wyatt Slade III enlisted to serve in World War II on April 21, 1942 in Camp Lee, Virginia.³
     Wyatt married Cloteal Hill.^4,5 Wyatt died in March, 1971 at age 61^2,5 and was buried in Martins Brandon Episcopal Church Cemetery, Burrowsville, Prince George County, Virginia.⁵

     Ruth Lee Slade was born in 1925 in Alamance County, North Carolina.¹ She was the daughter of Lee Wycliff Slade and Lilian Ruth Garrison.¹
     Ruth married Walter Sonnie Vaughn.² Ruth died on February 23, 2013 in North Carolina.² She was buried in Pine Hill Cemetery, Burlington, Alamance County, North Carolina.² Her obituary read as follows:

      BURLINGTON - Ruth Lee Slade Vaughn, 87, of 521 Robertson St., died Saturday, Feb. 23, 2013, at Alamance Regional Medical Center following several years of declining health.
A native of Alamance County, she was a retired clerk with JC Penney and a member of Glen Hope Baptist Church, where she was a charter member of the Dorcas Sunday School Class.
Survivors include her daughters, Sandra Dixon and husband, Ronnie, of Burlington, and Janice Gallagher and husband, Ed, of Burlington; a brother; Robert L. "Bob" Slade of Asheboro; a sister-in-law,
Helen Slade, Burlington; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Sonnie Walter Vaughn; parents, Lee W. and Lillian Ruth Garrison Slade; a sister; Mary Viers; and brothers, W.H. "Buddy" Slade and Gene A. Slade.
The funeral will be held at 4 p.m. Tuesday, at McClure Funeral Home Chapel in Graham with the Rev. Larry Redding and the Rev. Bob Stephenson presiding. Burial will be in Pine Hill Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at McClure Funeral Home in Graham on Tuesday from 3 to 4 p.m. before the service, other times at the residence of Sandra Dixon, 1518 N. Mebane St., Burlington.²

     Wallace Holt Slade was born on March 26, 1927 in Alamance County, North Carolina.^1,2 He was the son of Lee Wycliff Slade and Lilian Ruth Garrison.¹
     Wallace married Helen Potts³, the daughter of Luvana Chandler & James Hardy Potts.³ Wallace died on November 25, 2006 at age 79.² He was buried in Alamance Memorial Park, Burlington, Alamance County, North Carolina.⁴

     Mary L. Slade was born in 1928 in Alamance County, North Carolina.¹ She was the daughter of Lee Wycliff Slade and Lilian Ruth Garrison.¹
     Mary married Mr. Viers.² Mary died on February 24, 2013 in North Carolina.³ Her obituary read as follows:

      BURLINGTON - Ms. Mary Viers, 84, of 908 South Graham-Hopedale Road, Burlington, died at Alamance Regional Medical Center on Sunday, Feb. 24, 2013 at 6:18 a.m. following a brief illness.
A native of Alamance County, she was the daughter of Lee Wycliffe Slade and Lillian Garrison Slade, both deceased. She retired from Carolina Hosiery and attended Glen Hope Baptist Church where she was a member of the Dorcas Sunday School Class.
Survivors include her son, Stephen Montgomery of Burlington; brother, Robert L. Slade of Asheboro; sister-in-law, Helen Slade of Burlington; and nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, Buddy Slade and Gene Slade; and a sister, Ruth Vaughn.
There will be no services.

     Sina A. Slade was born in 1863 in Alabama.¹ She was the daughter of unknown Slade.¹

     Carrie Louise Brown was born on October 1, 1880 in Hamilton County, Florida.^2,1 She was the daughter of William Harper Brown and Martha E. Wood.¹
     Carrie married Jerry E. Slade on February 14, 1897 in Florida.³ Carrie died on December 17, 1939 at age 59.¹ She was buried in Oak Lawn Cemetery, Lake City, Columbia County, Florida.^1,4
