     Fred Robert Slade Jr. was born in 1929 in Portsmouth, Virginia.1,2 He was the son of Fred Robert Slade and Julia Walsh.1
     Fred married Mary Eleanor Davis. Fred Robert Slade Jr. was an independent real estate developer and a member of Saint Paul's Catholic Church. He enjoyed playing tennis and was active at the Portsmouth YMCA.2 Fred died on January 31, 20092 and was buried in Meadowbrook Memorial Gardens, Suffolk, Virginia.2 His obituary read as follows:

     Fred R. Slade Jr., 80, died Jan. 31, 2009, in Bon Secours Maryview Medical Center. Mr. Slade was born in Portsmouth, the son of the late Fred R. Slade and Julia Walsh Slade. He was an independent real estate developer and a member of Saint Paul's Catholic Church. He enjoyed playing tennis and was active at the Portsmouth YMCA. He was the widower of Mary Eleanor Davis Slade since her death in 2005. Left to cherish his memory are two daughters and their husbands, Wendy Slade Mathias and Barry and Mary Slade Pollock and Cam, all of Chesapeake; four grandchildren, Jordan Mathias, Zoe Mathias, Joel Pollock and Clay Pollock; a sister, Beverly Anderson of Chesapeake; a brother, Leo F. Slade Sr. of Windsor, Va; plus a number of nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday in Meadowbrook Mausoleum Chapel. Following the entombment, friends may join the family at his daughter's home, 3324 Meadowbrook Lane, Chesapeake, VA 23321. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Portsmouth or Chesapeake library or to the Portsmouth YMCA. Foster Funeral Home is assisting the family.2

     Ruth married Walter Sonnie Vaughn.2 Ruth died on February 23, 2013 in North Carolina.2 She was buried in Pine Hill Cemetery, Burlington, Alamance County, North Carolina.2 Her obituary read as follows:

      BURLINGTON - Ruth Lee Slade Vaughn, 87, of 521 Robertson St., died Saturday, Feb. 23, 2013, at Alamance Regional Medical Center following several years of declining health.
A native of Alamance County, she was a retired clerk with JC Penney and a member of Glen Hope Baptist Church, where she was a charter member of the Dorcas Sunday School Class.
Survivors include her daughters, Sandra Dixon and husband, Ronnie, of Burlington, and Janice Gallagher and husband, Ed, of Burlington; a brother; Robert L. "Bob" Slade of Asheboro; a sister-in-law,
Helen Slade, Burlington; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Sonnie Walter Vaughn; parents, Lee W. and Lillian Ruth Garrison Slade; a sister; Mary Viers; and brothers, W.H. "Buddy" Slade and Gene A. Slade.
The funeral will be held at 4 p.m. Tuesday, at McClure Funeral Home Chapel in Graham with the Rev. Larry Redding and the Rev. Bob Stephenson presiding. Burial will be in Pine Hill Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at McClure Funeral Home in Graham on Tuesday from 3 to 4 p.m. before the service, other times at the residence of Sandra Dixon, 1518 N. Mebane St., Burlington.2

      BURLINGTON - Ms. Mary Viers, 84, of 908 South Graham-Hopedale Road, Burlington, died at Alamance Regional Medical Center on Sunday, Feb. 24, 2013 at 6:18 a.m. following a brief illness.
A native of Alamance County, she was the daughter of Lee Wycliffe Slade and Lillian Garrison Slade, both deceased. She retired from Carolina Hosiery and attended Glen Hope Baptist Church where she was a member of the Dorcas Sunday School Class.
Survivors include her son, Stephen Montgomery of Burlington; brother, Robert L. Slade of Asheboro; sister-in-law, Helen Slade of Burlington; and nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, Buddy Slade and Gene Slade; and a sister, Ruth Vaughn.
There will be no services.
