     Cooke Fitzhugh Slade was born in July, 1850 in Fairfax County, Virginia. [Cooke's age was recorded as 5/12 in the census taken Oct 1850]² He was the son of William Otis Slade and Julianna Fitzhugh.^3,2 He was apparently named in honor of his grandfather: Mordecai Cooke Fitzhugh and great-grandmother Susannah Cooke. In 1870, Cooke, Selena and their mother Juliana were living with Aunt Mary Mason and grandmother, Francis Fitzhugh. They all indicated real property in following amounts & their ages: Cooke, 19, 2,000; Selena, 21, 2,000; Francis Fitzhugh, 86, 5,500; Henrietta Clowes, 44, 4,000; Mary A. Mason, 42, 3,000 & 800 personal.⁴ In 1880, Cooke was living with the family of Phillip M. Edmunds 36, listed as brother-in-law. Phillip's wife Selina was Cooke's sister.⁵
     Cooke married Sarah Elliott circa 1887.⁶ Cooke died in 1937 and was buried in Falls Church Episcopal Church Cemetery, Falls Church, Virginia.⁷

     Frederick William Slade was born on October 2, 1836 in Shoreditch, London, England.¹ He was the son of Charles Robert Slade and Eliza [?].¹ Frederick William Slade was christened on October 30, 1836 in Shoreditch, London; at Saint Leonard's Church of England.¹ He appeared in the Electoral Register in 1911 in Borough of Poplar, London, England.²

     Helen V. Beall was born circa 1908 in Louisiana.¹ She was the daughter of Alvie K. Beall.¹
     Helen married James Charles Slade, son of Ebenezer Franklin Slade and Margaret Dezelle Carlisle, circa 1926.¹

     Gordon Wilson Slade was born on December 27, 1917 in Ellis County, Texas.^1,2,3 He was the son of Jesse Brandon Slade and Lillie Wilson.⁴ He enlisted in the United States Air Force on January 20, 1942.
     Gordon married Lois Floydene Warren, daughter of Floyd Warren, circa 1945. Gordon died on April 21, 1989 at age 71.¹ He was buried in Palmer Cemetery, Palmer, Ellis County, Texas.³

     William Slade was born circa 1837 in Virginia.¹
     William married Suzzie [?] circa 1859.¹

Could this be the same William Slade who turned up in 1900 Barton County, Missouri ??

     Robert Slade was born in 1822 in Bristol, England.^3,4 He was the son of Edward Walker Slade and Mary Blake. The entire family immigrated from Bristol, England to the United States aboard the Barque Woodman arriving on July 7, 1834. The family included Edward and Mary Slade (ages 42, and 40) and their children Anthony age 18, Clara age 15, Emma age 14, Mary age 13, Robert age 12 and Horatio age 10.⁵
     Robert married first Anne Elizabeth Eldredge on July 4, 1848 in Euclid County, Ohio.
     Robert married second Mary M. Stratton on June 14, 1859 in Cuyahoga County, Ohio.⁶ Robert died on April 17, 1894.⁷ He was buried in Monroe Street Cemetery, Cleveland, Cuyahoga County, Ohio.⁷

     Ira Erwin Slade was born on October 20, 1880 in Stromsberg, Polk County, Nebraska.³ He was the son of Arthur B. Slade and Martha Louise Gorsuch.⁴ Ira Erwin Slade was New Tag in November, 1880 in Nebraska.⁵
     Ira married Carrie Eva Corbin.²
     Ira married Eva Corbin in Texas.⁶ Ira died on March 13, 1954 in Del Rio, Val Verde County, Texas, at age 73 His death certificate indicated his father was Arthur B. Slaid, born in Wisconsin and his mother was Martha Goursuch, born in Iowa.³ He was buried in Westlawn Cemetery, Del Rio, Val Verde County, Texas.⁷

     Mary Ida James went by Molly.² She was born on October 3, 1861 in Surry County, Virginia.¹ She was the daughter of Belvinia Antoinette Lane and Mark Robert James 1825-1911.
     Mary married Peter Ruffin Slade, son of Wyatt Slade and Martha Jane Holdsworth, on March 23, 1884 in Virginia.¹ Mary died on January 31, 1910 in Dendron, Surry County, Virginia, at age 48.¹ She was buried in Union Christian Church Cemetery, Surry, Surry County, Virginia.³ Her obituary read as follows:

     Carrie Smith Judkins was born on December 25, 1892 in Surry County, Virginia,³, the daughter of Mollie and Emmett J. Judkins.
     Carrie married Garnett Clyde Slade, son of Peter Ruffin Slade and Mary Ida James, on June 10, 1920 in Virginia.⁴, the daughter of Mollie and Emmett J. Judkins. Carrie died on January 21, 1978 at age 85.^5,2 She was buried in Wakefield UMCh Cemetery, Wakefield, Sussex County, Virginia.²

     Edna Estell Whitemore was born on April 25, 1900 in Surry County, Virginia.²
     Edna married Robert James Slade, son of Peter Ruffin Slade and Mary Ida James, on September 16, 1917 in Dendron, Surry County, Virginia.¹ Edna died on November 30, 1978 at age 78^3,4 and was buried in Wakefield UMCh Cemetery, Wakefield, Sussex County, Virginia.⁴

     Mary Estelle Slade was born on May 10, 1920 in Surry County, Virginia.¹ She was the daughter of Robert James Slade and Edna Estell Whitemore.¹
     Mary married Gordon Chapman Price on April 20, 1940 in Virginia.² Mary died in 1971.³

     Kenneth Jackson Slade was born on April 1, 1927 in Surry County, Virginia.^1,2 He was the son of Robert James Slade and Edna Estell Whitemore.¹
     Kenneth married Rose Marie Ingram.² Kenneth died on August 26, 2001 at age 74^2,3 and was buried in Wakefield UMCh Cemetery, Wakefield, Sussex County, Virginia.^2,3 His obituary read as follows:

      Kenneth Jackson Slade, 74, died at his home in Wakefield, Va., on Sunday, Aug. 26, 2001. Born April 1, 1927, he was a son of the late Robert James Slade and Edna Whitmore Slade. He retired in 1986 from Smithfield Packing Co. after 25 years of service; was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II; a charter member of the Wakefield Jaycees; a member of Wakefield Vol. Fire Dept; and attended The Shrine of the Infant Jesus of Prague Catholic Church in Wakefield.
     

Mr. Slade is survived by his devoted wife, Rose Marie Ingram Slade; two sons, Kenneth J. Slade Jr. and wife, Donna, of Colonial Heights, and Michael B. Slade and wife, Lee Ann, of Midlothian; four grandchildren, AI Slade, Brad Slade, Brittany Slade and Braeden Slade; one great-granddaughter, Hannah Slade; a sister, Edna S. Pitts of Goochland; and several nieces and nephews. He was a brother of the late Robert J. Slade Jr. and the late Mary S. Price.
     

A Christian Wake will be held at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 28, at The Shrine of the Infant Jesus of Prague Catholic Church, Wakefield, by Father Carl DeSouza. A Mass of the Resurrection will be held at the church at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 29. Burial with military rites will follow in Wakefield Cemetery.²

     Gordon Chapman Price was born on November 3, 1914 in Surry County, Virginia.²
     Gordon married Mary Estelle Slade, daughter of Robert James Slade and Edna Estell Whitemore, on April 20, 1940 in Virginia.¹ Gordon died on March 23, 1991 in Virginia at age 76.²

     Armistead May Ingram was born on July 3, 1917 in Surry County, Virginia.¹ She was the daughter of Herbert Ingram and Cecil Virginia Faison.²

Armistead married Robert James Slade Jr., son of Robert James Slade and Edna Estell Whitemore, on December 4, 1938 in Richmond, Virginia.¹ Armistead died on December 30, 2003 in Virginia at age 86.^3,4 She was buried in Union Church Cemetery, Dendron, Surry County, Virginia.² SURRY - Armistead Ingram Slade, 86, passed away Tuesday, Dec. 30, 2003, with her loving daughter by her side. Born July 3, 1917, in Surry County, she was a daughter of the late Herbert Ingram and Cecil Virginia Faison Ingram. Armistead was a 1934 graduate of Dendron High School; a member of Dendron United Methodist Church; and in 1993 retired from the Surry County Commissioner of Revenue's office and the Office of Property Owners' Records and Maps after 20 years of service. She was active in 4-H Club leadership and served as president of the Virginia Association of 4-H Leaders. Mrs. Slade is survived by her daughter, Donna Leigh Slade of Surry, and devoted loved one, Paul Crogen of Peak, S.C; three sisters, Arlene I. Taylor of Dendron, Erna I. Rogers of Franklin, and Norma I. Poling of Broomfield, Colo; and a number of loving relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by two brothers, John Ingram and Faison Ingram. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 2, 2004, at Purviance Funeral Home Chapel, Wakefield, with the Rev. Ray Rowling officiating. Burial will be held in Union Church Cemetery, Dendron. The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 1, 2004, at the funeral home. Memorial donations may be made to Dendron Volunteer Fire Dept., Surry Vol. Fire Dept., or a charity of choice.

     Rebecca J. Jackson was born on February 3, 1836 in Virginia.^2,3 She was New Tag circa 1839 in Virginia.⁴
     Rebecca married Joseph Jefferson Slade, son of Henry T. Slade and Mariah Freeman, on March 10, 1858.¹ She is listed as a widow, mother of six children, five are still living.² Rebecca died on May 1, 1905 and was buried in Shiloh Baptist Church Cemetery, Dinwiddie County, Virginia.³

     Ida B. Slade was born in November, 1865 in Prince George County, Virginia.¹ She was the daughter of Joseph Jefferson Slade and Rebecca J. Jackson.¹
     Ida married James W. Warren circa 1889.²

     Gertrude A. Slade was born on September 15, 1871 in Prince George County, Virginia.² She was the daughter of Joseph Jefferson Slade and Rebecca J. Jackson.¹
     Gertrude married Ernest F. Young circa 1896.³ Gertrude died on April 13, 1953 at age 81⁴ and was buried in Blandford Cemetery, Petersburg, (Independent City), Virginia.⁴
