     Thomas Slade was born circa 1800 in Alexandria, District of Columbia. [At that time, Alexandria, Virginia was considered within District of Columbia]1 He was the son of Charles Slade and Mary Oates.1 The obituary for Congressman Charles Slade, brother of Thomas, indicates the three brothers, William, Thomas and Charles migrated westward to Clinton County, Illinois. Charles later became U.S. Congressman from Illinois and William apparently returned to Virginia.2 Thomas died on May 10, 1835 in Carlyle, Clinton County, Illinois, USA.3

Mary Otis Slade1

     Mary Otis Slade was born on February 20, 1798 in Alexandria, District of Columbia. [Prior to 1850, this portion of Virginia was designated as within the District of Columbia]1 She was the daughter of Charles Slade and Mary Oates.1
     Mary married first David English.2 David was the son of James Robinson English and Alice Conover of Monmouth County, New Jersey. Mary Otis Slade David and Mary had four children, Alice, who married Dr. Joseph Schoolfeld; Alice, who married Josiah Dallam; Henry, who married Lizzie Van Doren; and Charles Slade English, born June 30, 1825, married Ellen D. Muller, died March 19, 1900.2 Mary died on May 2, 1826 in Georgetown, District of Columbia, at age 28.1 She was buried in Oak Hill Cemetery, District of Columbia.1
