Chris Slade, 41, of Newburgh went to heaven with hugs and kisses on Wednesday March 25, 2015, at his home surrounded by his loving family.He was born February 9, 1974, in Raleigh, N.C., to Lawrence and Kathy (Ovide) Slade.Growing up, Chris lived in San Antonio, Texas, El Paso, Texas, Washington, D.C., and Daytona Beach, Fla., while his father was an army doctor. In fourth grade, Chris joined the basketball team and his love of the game grew from there. For high school, Chris attended The Bolles School in Jacksonville, Fla. While in high school, he lived with his grandparents during the week and had a great admiration for his grandfather. Chris played football, ran track and was co-captain of the basketball team and all city in his senior year.He graduated with a Mechanical Engineering degree from Vanderbilt University in 1996. He was a member of the Sigma Nu Fraternity. His senior year he played basketball for the Vanderbilt Commodores. At Vanderbilt he met Jennifer Koch, and they married in 2001 in Nashville. He worked for Tom Barrow Co. while in Nashville. In 2005, the couple moved to Evansville, where Chris worked for Koch Air as a Sales Engineer. He led Koch Air to win the Carrier Top Gun Award for commercial HVAC for several years in a row.After college, Chris learned how to play the guitar and advanced his piano skills. Jennifer and Chris took dancing lessons for two years. Chris earned his pilot license and loved to play golf. In 2013, Chris underwent RCIA and became Catholic.Chris and Jennifer have three children together, Christian, Bennett and Avery. For 18 years, Chris gave cancer such a fight in a noble and gracious way. His family wishes to thank his doctors and caregivers over the years. His relationships were his most treasured gift. We celebrate his life, his love for his family, joy and happiness that he brought to us all and his sense of humor that we all loved.
