SLADE John May 13, 1951 - January 9, 2020 It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of John Joseph Slade at the age of 68 on January 9, 2020. He is predeceased by his parents John & Sadie Slade and his brother Kenneth. He leaves to mourn with loving memories his son Stephen Slade (Jeannie McFarlane), daughter Leah Harvey (Pierre-Luc) and grandson Jack; his loving & dedicated sister Helen Pembroke (Pat) and brother Kevin (Sandy). Also, close friends: Elaine, Sara, Mackenzie & Mikayla Oates, Peter, Sandra & Sophia Deering, Priscilla (Babs) Pike, Steven Soper and especially Aretha H. Davidson. Special thanks to Dr. Ingrid Peacock for the kind and compassionate care she provided. John was born at Placentia cottage hospital and spent his formative years in Crockers Cove and grew up in Carbonear. He worked for his uncle Jack Soper at Royal Garage in Harbour Grace where he learned invaluable life lessons. John graduated from Memorial University with a Bachelor of Arts degree and went on to work for the federal government for over 30 years. He had a positive influence on many communities throughout the Avalon. Upon retirement, John embarked on a new course and completed electrical technology from College of the North Atlantic. John had great passion for wood working, music, hockey, martial arts (obtaining a black belt in Kenpo Karate), riding his motor cycle and tending to his “ladies”; he sure did have a green thumb. A celebration of John’s life will take place at Route 66 in Carbonear on Monday January 13, 2020 from 4pm to 8pm. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society. “Old bikers never die, they just ride away.”.1
