Thomas Nelson Slade, 55, passed away Oct. 3, 2008, at Bon Secours DePaul Medical Center. A native of Norfolk County, Virginia, Mr. Slade was a Vietnam veteran of the U.S. Army. He retired after 31 years of service with the Norfolk Fire Department and was a member of Kempsville Church Of Christ. Survivors include his loving wife, Gayla R. Slade; son, David Slade; daughter, Trisha Slade, all of Norfolk; four brothers, Percy Slade of Pinehurst, N.C., George Slade of Norfolk, James Slade of Currituck County, North Carolina, and Kenneth Slade of Norfolk; and a sister, Alice Whitehead of Florida. A celebration of Mr. Slade's life will be held Monday at 6 p.m. in Kempsville Church Of Christ by the Rev. Randy Childress. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Lung Association.3
