Howard D. Slade1

     Howard D. Slade was born on October 13, 1934 in Onondaga County, New York.2 He was the son of Homer W. Slade and Ann C. Hoppe.2 Howard was a graduate of Warners High School. He volunteered for the draft in 1952 and entered service with the U.S. Army in 1954, and was stationed in Germany. After his service in 1956, he attended the Environmental Science of Forestry at Syracuse University. Howard had been employed by the Onondaga County Engineering Department as a land surveyor before entering the New York State Police in 1962.2
     Howard married Phyllis [?] in 1965.2 Howard died on May 3, 2018 at age 83.2 He was buried in St. Mary's Cemetery, Fulton, Oswego County, New York.2 His obituary read as follows:

      Howard D. Slade, 83, of Fulton, passed away peacefully in his home on Thursday, May 3rd following a long illness with his family by his side. Born in Warners, NY on October 13, 1934, he was the son of the late Anna and Homer Slade.

Howard was a graduate of Warners High School. He volunteered for the draft in 1952 and entered service with the U.S. Army in 1954, and was stationed in Germany. After his service in 1956, he attended the Environmental Science of Forestry at Syracuse University. Howard had been employed by the Onondaga County Engineering Department as a land surveyor before entering the New York State Police in 1962, he served in uniform, as an investigator and senior investigator with the B.C.I. in both Troops A and D. Howard was also assigned as security for the 1980 Lake Placid Winter Olympics.

After his retirement from the NYS Police, he worked as a security manager for Rite Aid Corporation and as a river marshal for Douglaston Manor at the Salmon River in Pulaski. Howard was a member and past president of the Fulton Lions Club and an avid S.U. fan, fisherman, golfer, reader and history buff. He had many memorable stories and sayings that were often quoted with his unique sense of humor.

Surviving are his wife of 53 years, Phyllis; son, Michael (Andrea) Slade; daughter, Deborah (Mark) Brotherton; grandson, Jacob Brotherton and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents and sister, Helen Hughes of Bolton, CT.
Calling hours are from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday, May 7 at Foster Funeral Home, 910 Fay Street, Fulton with services 11 a.m. Tuesday, May 8 at the funeral home. Burial will be at St. Mary's Cemetery, Fulton.2

     Sylvester P. Slade was born in August, 1839 in New York.1 He was the son of Parley Slade.2 Sylvester P. Slade voluntarily enlisted on Aug 24, 1861 at Baldwinsville, New York and re-enlisted Dec 25, 1863 with the1st Regiment, New York Light Artillery. He mustered out of service as a Private on June 18, 1865, Elmira, New York.3,4
     Sylvester married Ellen Healy circa 1866.1 Sylvester died on October 2, 1909 at age 70.5 He was buried in Howlett Hill Cemetery, Howlett Hill, Onondaga County, New York.5

     Donald Allen Slade was born on February 8, 1915 in Cheshire County, New Hampshire.3 He was the son of William Allen Slade and Lillian May Clark.4 Donald Allen Slade enlisted to serve in World War II on March 24, 1941 in Fort Hayes, Columbus, Franklin County, Ohio, He was released from service on Jan 23, 1946.5 He served in U.S. Army from Aug 13, 1942, until Jan 23, 1946.6
     Donald married Yvette Norma Ramsey, daughter of Charles T. Ramsey and Florence E. Sheffer, on May 8, 1946 in Franklin County, Ohio.7 He worked as a supervising engineer of rates and revenue for Ohio Bell Telephone Company. He served as an Army captain during World War II. He was a member of Bayside Community - Church of God, Safety Harbor, Ohio Bell Telephone Pioneers and Gamma Delta fraternity of Ohio Wesleyan College. In 1989, he moved from Cleveland to Pinellas County, Florida.1
     Donald married Betty Marie Henningar on March 4, 1989 in Pinellas County, Florida.8
     Donald married Betty Struble on March 4, 1989 in Florida.1,2 Donald died on November 20, 2001 in Largo, Pinellas County, Florida, at age 86.1 He has a tombstone marker at Sunset Memorial Park, North Olmsted, Ohio, however, it is doubtful that he is buried there. Is is possible that he is buried at Serenity Gardens in Largo, Florida, as that is where is services were held.9,1 His obituary read as follows:

      SLADE, DONALD A., 86, of Largo, died Tuesday (Nov. 20, 2001) at Largo Medical Center. He was born in Keene, N.H., and came here in 1989 from Cleveland. He worked as a supervising engineer of rates and revenue for Bell Telephone Co. He served as an Army captain dring World War II.      Cornelius married Laura Miller, daughter of Alexander Miller and Hannah Jane Gracy, on March 18, 1887 in Mercer County, Illinois.3
     Cornelius married second Alice Davidson, daughter of Edward Davidson, on November 28, 1918 in Illinois.4 Cornelius died on February 5, 1937 at age 712 and was buried in Mount Vernon Cemetery, North Henderson, Mercer County, Illinois.5
