Volunteer activities included serving as a docent at the Denver Art Museum, a speaker for the Foothills Genealogical Society, and a member of the outreach committee at Shepherd of the Hills Presbyterian Church. She is survived by her beloved husband Russell, precious children Barbara Ann of Lakewood, and Walter (Kathy) of Arvada, and cherished grandsons Isaac, Caleb, and Micah. Memorial services, 2:00 p.m. Thursday, at Shepherd of the Hills Presbyterian Church, 11500 W. 20th Ave., Lakewood. DERUYTER, MARGARET Margaret Ann (Slade) DeRuyter, born May 14, 1918, of Pierson, MI went to be with the Lord December 22, 2014. She was preceded in death by her husband, Marcus F. DeRuyter, and infant daughter Camille. She is survived by her daughters: Carol (Dr. Richard) Belgrad of Bozeman, MT, Judy DeRuyter of Grand Rapids, Linda (Terry) Moehlman of Evans, GA, Margery (Joe) Smith of Kalamazoo; six grandchildren; and 14 great grandchildren. Margaret is the last sibling of five sister and three brothers in the Slade family. She studied nursing at St. Mary's Hospital School of Nursing. Margaret enjoyed gardening and feeding the birds at her home in Pierson. She was a member of Christ the King Church, Howard City and St. Anthony of Padua Church, Grand Rapids. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Monday 11:00 AM at St. Anthony of Padua where she will repose one hour prior. Interment Mt. Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be Sunday from 2 to 4 pm at Arsulowicz Brothers Remembrance Mortuary, 3525 Remembrance Rd NW, where a Rosary will be prayed at 3:45 pm. Memorial Contributions to St. Anthony's Education Foundation will be appreciated.4

Helen S. Hughes, 85, of Glastonbury, formerly of Bolton, died on Thursday, (February 23, 2012) at her home surrounded by her loving family after a long and courageous battle with lung cancer. She was the wife of the late Rev. John D. Hughes. Helen was born on June 24, 1926, in Syracuse, NY, to Homer W. and Ann C. Hoppe Slade of Warners, NY. She was a 1944 graduate of Warners High School. She worked at Unity Life and Accident Insurance until her marriage to the Rev. John D. Hughes, who was the resident minister of St. Matthew's Episcopal Church in Liverpool, NY and St. Paul's Church in Warners, NY in 1955. Helen was married to John for 46 years, and where the Episcopal Church led them, they went. They had resided in Waterbury, Manchester, and Bolton. Helen loved the Bolton area where she lived for 35 years. She was a member of St. George's Episcopal Church and the Women's Group for many years. In 2001, Helen moved to congregate care at the The Herbert T. Clark House in Glastonbury, CT. She was an avid fan of the UCONN Basketball Teams. She is survived by her loving children, Cynthia Southern of Hope Valley, RI, Mary and Robert Wright of Coventry, William and Mary Ann Hughes of Coventry, and John and Kathy Hughes of Manchester; and her beloved grandchildren Corinne Southern and boyfriend, Patrick Horton of Providence, RI, Erik and Karl Wright of Coventry, Brendan Hughes of Manchester, and Jenna and Brittany Hughes of Palm Bay, FL ; a beloved brother and sister- in- law, Howard and Phyllis Slade of Fulton, NY; and several nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her husband, the Rev. John D. Hughes and her son-in-law, Paul Southern.
