Louis Keith Slade1
(20 March 1953 - 29 September 2016)
Louis Keith Slade was born on March 20, 1953 in Midland, Texas.1 He was the son of Donald William Slade and Clara Dean Estelle Cusson.1 Louis died on September 29, 2016 at age 63.2 His obituary read as follows:
Lewis Keith Slade 1953-2016
Our loving father, friend, colleague, and mentor, L. Keith Slade, was called home to the Lord and our savior Jesus Christ on September 29, 2016. Keith was an exceptional human being who thoroughly enjoyed making people smile each and every day. A loving son, a caring father, and a steadfast friend, L. Keith Slade left his mark on this world for all the right reasons. Born in Midland, Texas on March 20, 1953 to Claire Dean and Don Slade. An honest youngster with a constant stream of stories is how he could be described. Dad lettered in football, basketball, baseball, and track for McArthur High School. After completing high school, he worked on roofs and the docks to put himself through college at University of Texas at Arlington. Keith then would move to Houston, Texas where he put himself through law school at South Texas College of Law.
Our dad was a man's man by all measure. He loved to hunt, to fish, the mountains, and being surrounded by nature's majestic beauty. Knowing he would be a lawyer at a young age, our dad also loved his work. He was an accomplished trial lawyer who, over the course of a 35-year legal career, earned the respect and admiration of colleagues and adversaries alike. He was stern but fair, compassionate, and ethical in everything he did as a professional which made him a great teacher and mentor to the younger lawyers who practiced both with and against him.
Our father, L. Keith Slade, was an absolute legend who taught us all not to take life too seriously and to spread pure love each and every opportunity that we get. He treated everyone with the utmost respect. It didn't matter who you were, L. Keith Slade would shoot it straight and tell you how he really felt.
Above all, our father loved his family, his children, his books, his dogs, and the Lord above. L. Keith is survived by his mother, Claire Dean Slade; children Lauren and Travis Slade; brother, Greg Slade; sister's Jean, Jenny, and Sheila Slade, and many loving nieces and nephews. We will love you forever, miss you every second, and will do our very best to spread love and encouragement that you gave us each and every day of our lives. To the Greatest Man I'll Ever Know. Thank you daddy, we love you so much.
For all who knew our father, they would agree that he was the most positive and optimistic person one would come into contact with day in and day out. Amidst the pain and hurt that we are feeling, we would like to invite you to come laugh, cry, tell stories, spread love, and celebrate the amazing life and times of our loving father.
There will be a Celebration of Life for L. Keith Slade on Wednesday, October 12, 2016 from 4:00-8:00pm, at Safari Texas Ranch, 11627 FM 1464, Richmond, TX 77407.
Our dad was always heartfelt and adamant when he said, "Everyone deserves a warm turkey during the holidays, it's just right!" Knowing that we will never get to spend our father's favorite time of the year with him again, we have created SladesGiving.com in lieu of flowers in hopes of distributing as many turkeys as possible in the name of L. Keith Slade. In lieu of flowers please visit Sladesgiving.com to help distribute love and keep our fathers memory alive forever.
