Orra Smith Slade Jr.1

     Orra Smith Slade Jr. was born on December 3, 1918 in Ray County, Missouri.1,2 He was the son of Orra Smith Slade and Louise Sophia Rocklage.1
     Orra married second Mary Weisz Chrisman.3 He was a Sgt in the US Army Air Corps during World War II.
     Orra married Lillie Mae Rowan on June 10, 1947.3 Orra died on September 26, 1997 in Henrietta, Ray County, Missouri, at age 78.2 He was buried in Richmond Memory Gardens, Ray County, Missouri.4 His obituary read as follows:

      Orra S. ''Junior'' Slade, Jr., 77, Richmond, MO, died Friday, September 26, 1997, at Ray County Memorial Hospital, Richmond, MO.
     

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Monday, September 29, at Thurman Funeral Home, Richmond; burial in Richmond Memory Gardens, Richmond, where military graveside services will be conducted by the American Legion Post 237 and the Richmond VFW Post 4398. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association or the Henrietta Methodist Church.

     

Mr. Slade was born December 3, 1919, in the Sunshine Community in Ray County, MO, to Orra Smith Slade, Sr. and Sophia Louise (Rocklage) Slade. He married Lillie Mae Rowan of Dockery, MO, on June 10, 1947. She preceded him in death on June 18, 1986. He later married Mary Weisz Chrisman of Norborne, MO, on January 26, 1989, she survives of the home.

     

Mr. Slade was a lifelong farmer. He was a loving father, husband, and grandfather. He had served as a Director on the Sunshine Levy Distric t for over 40 years. He had served as a member of the Henrietta School Board. He was a lifetime Ray County, MO, resident. He was a Methodist.

     

Mr. Slade was a veteran of WW II having served as a Sergeant in the U.S. Army Air Corps. He served in the Asiatic Theatre for over three years in India, China, and Burma.5
