Rev. William Slade1

Rev. William Slade was born on December 13, 1856 in Thetford, Orange County, Vermont.1 He was the son of William Slade and Helen Lucena Palmer.1 He early education was in the public schools of Thetford and at Thetford Academy. He finished his preparation for college at Kimball Union Academy (Meriden NH) graduating there in 1879. He graduated from the regular classical course of Dartmouth College in 1884. He was a member of the Theta Delta Chi fraternity. He graduated from the regular course of Andover Theological Seminary in 1887, but remained there during the following year to take a special course in Hermeneutics.
He was ordained to the ministry Sept 18, 1888 and installed at the same time pastor of the Second Congregational church in West Newbury MA.1,2
William married Mary Brown Chase, daughter of Elwood N. Chase and Anna Noyes, on August 4, 1891 in West Newbury, Massachusetts.3 He resigned pastorate of the West Newbury church in 1891 to become pastor of the First Congregational church in Williamstown, MA. He remained there six years, doing valuable and acceptable work. Then he removed to East Hampton (Chatham) Conn, where he was pastor of the Congregational church. Here he was also for some years Superintendent of Schools, and edited and published the volume called "The One Hundred and Fiftieth Anniversary of the Congregational Church of East Hampton, Conn" Nov 30, 1898. He raised the funds for the Parish House of the East Hampton church and superintended its erection.
On April 1, 1907, Mr Slade returned to Thetford, his native town, to become pastor of the First Congregational church, preaching also on alternate Sundays at the Union church at North Thetford. As chairman of the Executive Committee of the Trustees of Thetford Academy, he had general charge of that institution.1 William died in 19481 and was buried in Evergreen Rest Cemetery, Thetford Hill, Orange County, Vermont.4

She took a year of postgraduate study at Barnard College, the woman's department of Columbia, New York. She taught in the High school in Gloucester, Massachusetts and was in charge of the English Department.2 Helen Frances Slade was born on February 23, 1869 in Orange County, Vermont.2 She was the daughter of William Slade and Helen Lucena Palmer.1
