He is survived by his wife, Mary; a son, Jim of Colfax, Wis; a daughter, Jeanne Rikala of Aitkin, a sister, Gwen Carlson of Ironwood; and three grandchildren. Burial will be in Lakeview Cemetery in Aitkin. Arrangements are by Sorenson-Root-Thompson Funeral Home in Aitkin.1

Marjorie Jean (Slade) Hulstrom, 86, formerly of Ironwood, passed away Tuesday, Jan. 4, 2011, at the Arbor Hospice facility following a severe stroke. Her two remaining sons were by her side.She was born March 4, 1924, in Ironwood, daughter of the late Edith (Nicholls) and Thomas Slade. She attended area schools and married her high school sweetheart, George Gotfred Hulstrom, on Dec. 11, 1942, in Detroit.Jean worked at the St. James Hotel as a waitress and as a caterer's assistant in Ironwood. After moving to Ann Arbor in 1968, she worked for a short time helping to pack hotdogs before the University of Michigan football games. She went on to work as a salesperson at Winkelmans, a women's clothing store in Ann Arbor.Jean loved taking pictures of family and friends, always taking two to make sure she got a good one.
