     George Oliver Slade Jr. was born on October 6, 1937 in Dinwiddie County, Virginia.¹ He was the son of George Oliver Slade and Bernice Baker.^1,2 George died on January 24, 2005 in Virginia at age 67.¹ He was buried in Blandford Cemetery, Petersburg, (Independent City), Virginia.² His obituary read as follows:

      George O. Slade Jr., 67, passed away on Jan. 24, 2005. He was the son of the late George O. Slade Sr. and Bernice Baker Slade. George served in the U.S. Army and was a member of the American Legion Post 2.

He is survived by a sister, Virginia M. Slade; and three close first cousins, Bernice D. Taylor, Preston Raymond Dodson, and William H. Dodson; other family members and special friends.

Visitation for relatives and friends will be from 6 to 8 this evening, Jan. 27, 2005. A funeral service will be held at noon Friday, Jan. 28, 2005, in the Petersburg Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home & Cremation Service. Interment will follow in Blandford Cemetery.

     Grace Miriam Slade was born on July 12, 1880 in Dinwiddie County, Virginia.² She was the daughter of James Alanson Slade and Elizabeth Sophia Harrison.¹ Her middle name Miriam was shown on her husband's draft card.³
     Grace married William Thomas Phillips, son of William F. Phillips and Hattie F. [?], on August 6, 1901 in Norfolk, Virginia.^4,5 Grace died on July 26, 1963 at age 83² and was buried in Forest Lawn Cemetery, Norfolk City, Virginia.²

     William Thomas Phillips was born on January 9, 1876 in Williamston, Martin County, North Carolina.^2,3 He was the son of William F. Phillips and Hattie F. [?]⁴ If this is the correct William Phillips in the 1880 census, his mother appears to be Harriet Hadly Phillips, 23, living with her mother and brother. In 1870, her parents appear to be Thomas B. and Frances S. Hadly.⁵

     Elizabeth Thomas was born in May, 1854 in Florida.²
     Elizabeth married William Arthur Slade, son of Alfred Slade and Kiziah [?], on July 9, 1872 in Alachua County, Florida.¹ Elizabeth died on March 17, 1941 at age 86. She was buried in Sante Fe Cemetery, Bradford County, Florida.³

     Oliver Slade was born on September 13, 1874 in Bradford County, Florida.^1,2 He was the son of William Arthur Slade and Elizabeth Thomas.¹ Oliver Slade was registered for the military draft in World War I on September 12, 1918 in Florida.² Oliver died on September 30, 1953 at age 79.^3,4 He was buried in Sante Fe Cemetery, Bradford County, Florida.⁴

     Charles Slade was born in May, 1879 in Florida.¹ He was the son of William Arthur Slade and Elizabeth Thomas.¹ Charles Slade was registered for the military draft in World War I on September 12, 1918 in Bradford County, Florida.² Charles died on July 23, 1939 in Gadsden County, Florida, at age 60.³ He was buried in Sante Fe Cemetery, Bradford County, Florida.³

     William M. Slade was born on April 2, 1880 in Florida.¹ He was the son of William Arthur Slade and Elizabeth Thomas.¹
     William married Mary Lucinda Andreu, daughter of John Charles Andreu and Kissiah Delilah Snowden, on April 21, 1904 in Starke, Bradford County, Florida.² William M. Slade was registered for the military draft in World War I on September 12, 1918 in Bradford County, Florida.³ William died on January 2, 1966 at age 85.⁴ He was buried in Sante Fe Cemetery, Bradford County, Florida.⁵ His obituary read as follows:

      WILLIAM M. SLADE, 85, lifelong resident of Bradford County, died Sunday afternoon following a sudden illness. Born in Bradford County on Sept. 2, 1880, he was the son of the late Charles William and Elizabeth (Thomas) Slade. He was a retired farmer and a member of the Hampton Baptist Church.
Surviving is wife, Mary Lucinda Andreu Slade, of Hampton; six daughters, Mrs. Elvie Rigdon and Mrs. Jessie Mae Willis, both of Hampton; Mrs. Martha Hendry of Jacksonville; Mrs. Eva Allen, Palatka; Mrs. Alla Mae Schuppert, Fort Lauderdale; and Mrs. Myrtice Wallace, Miami; four sons, Lester, J. V., and Truby Slade, all of Hampton, and Avory Slade of Maxville; 27 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at 2 p. m. Wednesday, Jan. 5, at the graveside in Santa Fe Cemetery near Hampton with Rev. Paul Estes officiating. Interment was in the family plot under direction of DeWitt C. Jones Funeral Home of Starke.
Active pallbearers were Otto Hicks, Sr., Lonnie Melton, K. D. Watterson, Hazel Perry, Verdie Salter, and William Carter.

     Mattie Evelyn Slade was born on September 29, 1886 in Norfolk, Virginia.¹ She was the daughter of James Albert Slade and Indi Anna Watt.¹ Mattie died on August 24, 1887 in Norfolk, Virginia.¹
