Eugene Paul Slade was known as Butch. He was born on July 27, 1943 in Tazewell County, Virginia.2 He was the son of Paul Eugene Slade and Dorothy Jean Sayers.1,3
Eugene married Patsy Ann Proffitt on April 15, 1967 in Virginia.4,5 She was the daughter of Frank E. Proffitt and Clara Farmer Proffitt.4 Eugene died on June 1, 2012 in Virginia at age 68.2,6 His obituary read as follows:
Eugene P. "Butch" Slade Jr., 68, of Bluefield, Va., died, Friday, June 1, 2012 at his home. He was born in Bluefield and was a son of the late Eugene P. Slade and Dorothy Jean Sayers Slade. Butch was a retired service technician for National Cash Register, graduate of Graham High School, served in the U.S. Air Force, and had formerly managed the Golf Shop at the Bluefield Elks Country Club. He was a member of the Harman Lodge #222 A.F. & A.M., member of the Shriners, Bluefield, Va. VFW Memorial Post 9696, Bluefield Eagles Lodge and Charter member of the Tazewell, Va. Moose Lodge. He was also a member of the Bluefield Elks Lodge where he had recently received the District Elk of the Year award, he was a member of the Corner Club at Cottons where he was the one who started the Flower Funds for funerals and also the fruit baskets for the elderly given out at Christmas. He also formerly attended church at the Bluefield, Va. Church of God.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Patsy Ann Proffitt Slade; brother, William "Bill" Slade; and a sister, Margaret Gwendolyn Lovell.
He is survived by daughters, Kimberly Slade Cordle and husband, Rick of North Tazewell, Va., and Susan Slade Allen and husband, Donald of Bluefield, Va; grandchildren, Zachary Cordle of North Tazewell, Va. and Chloe Allen of Bluefield, Va.
In honoring his wishes he has been cremated.
Memorial services will be held Wednesday, June 6, 2012 at 7 p.m. at the Dudley Memorial Chapel in Bluefield, Va. with Pastor Buck Hagerman officiating. Friends may visit with the family on Wednesday from 6 p.m. until the hour of the services.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 22718, Oklahoma City, OK 73123.

Claire L. Slade, 84, of Galway, NY, died peacefully in her sleep on Saturday morning, September 11, 2010, with her husband of 64 years at her side. Born in Oneonta, Claire was the daughter of the late Alexander and Elva Ludwig. Following high school, she attended Burroughs Business School in Buffalo, NY in preparations for many office positions throughout her career. She was an active member of the Galway Methodist Church, serving on many committees and leading the MYF for many years. Claire also served as corresponding secretary and membership chairman for the Western Massachusetts Gladiolus Society for many years. As co-owner with her husband of Almali Gardens has become a popular area establishment, selling to many surrounding floral shops, and the general public. Claire married Walter Slade, her high school sweetheart, on June 2, 1946, and together they returned to Buffalo for a short time to enable him to complete his teaching degree, eventually settling in Galway. I addition to her husband, she is survived by her son, David (Beth Clute) Slade. She was grandmother of Amanda and Rachel Slade. She was sister of Ann Kurtz, James Ludwig, and Robert (Gail) Ludwig. A special nephew, Robert J. Ludwig and several other nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews also survive. Funeral will be held on Friday, September 17th, at 1 p.m. at the Galway Methodist Church. Interment in the Galway Cemetery. Visitation will be at the Richard J. Ryan Funeral Home, 2034 West St., Galway, on Friday from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. There will be a reception at the church following the interment, all are welcome. Contributions in Claire's memory can be made to the Galway United Methodist Church or the charity of one's choice.
